Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

So, I decided to upgrade my Haywire strat. Seymour Duncan pickups better pots Graph Tech nut AND Schaller locking tuners that I ordered direct from Schaller, this is begin May. When I changed the Grover tuners with the Schaller ones, after I restringed the guitar again and tuning my guitar 2 of the new Schallers didn't lock well enough :-\ I contacted Schaller and they promised to send me 2 new ones with UPS, these two disappeared when shipped with UPS, Schaller promised me again to send 2, this time they send me 2 in the wrong color. Again a couple of weeks later Schaller send me 2 in the right color. Meanwhile another Schaller tuner stopped working properly, so I emailed Schaller again and they promised me to send another one that never arrived at my place. It's now almost 3 months and Schaller isn't able or not willing to fix this...

Thanks but no thanks Schaller.

Regards
Mark

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

I use Schaller locking tuners on a few guitars, but I've never had an issue with them.

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Perhaps my problems with the Schaller tuners are an extreme case of bad luck but imo Schaller isn't doing their best to solve this issue...

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Seems odd schaller make some of the best parts going.

Just keep hassling them.

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Are you sure you're using them correctly? haha it just seems strange.

Show us a link of the exact tuners you bought.

I'm pretty sure that I'm using them correct... I've got these 10020320-01-53_200x200.jpg I't only one that isn't working the way it should right now, they weren't cheap by the way. I paid 127 euro that's 141,326 USD for the whole set

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

I've never had any issue with Schaller lockers, Germans are really serious about getting precision right. They are my favorite for 6 inline headstocks

Also, work with them, help them help you -provide details on whats going on- you catch more flies with honey, than complaining about them online before the outcome is resolved.

Just ask them to replace the entire pack. Perhaps they had a bad run.

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

How far does the little locking post go down when you wind them without a string on?

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Was it on the skinny strings
I have had some that wouldn't close enough to grip the high E

Fortunately I was able to swap tuners around

Some of the Fender branded inline are numbered for each position
Staggered and smaller towards the higher strings

Hey I offered Schaller sending back the defunct ones and the ones with the wrong color, they weren't interested... The outcome seems to be after about 3 months emailing & complaining with Schaller that I'm stuck with a set tuners that aren't working properly 5 locking and one non locking that's spoiling the effect of locking tuners... Can't you imagen that I'm sort of pissed?

I saw you joined TGP to slam them as well. Yep, you are pretty pissed

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Well no offence but i am wondering if its user error.

Me too. And I'm thinking that's probably what Schaller is thinking also by now. To have just ONE tuner do what the OP is saying would be rare, but possible. But for the same user to have THREE tuners with that problem is beyond the realms of possibility.

The "F" branded locking Schallers are on most of my builds. It's all that I use/buy now. The only reason I haven't used the "Schaller" branded ones is that I don't care for the brushed finish. I have never, ever had any problem at all with any of them! After at least a dozen sets...not one issue! That's why I use them...dependability.

Are there lighter weight tuners available? Yes.
Are there cheaper tuners available? Yes, lots.
Are there better tuners available (for a reasonable price)? Not that I've seen. I have used some very expensive tuners, even at double the price of the Fenders, but they didn't function or sound any better. I've used many brands that seem to be AS GOOD, but nothing noticeably better.

User error.

Now so that I don't come across as being totally critical and in an effort to provide some help to the OP...
Without a string in one of your tuners, back out the locking post all the way. Then screw it in all the way while watching it through the hole where the string goes. The end of the post should disappear into the top of the tuning peg when you have about one more turn to go. The locking post should also screw in and out freely. If there is any "tightness" while screwing it (ok all you dirty minds...no comment), try putting a tiny drop of light oil on the threads and work it in and out a few times (OMG you guys are bad). Now open it and put in a scrap high "E" string or the very end of a new one and lock it down as tight as you can. Try to pull it out. Open it and pull out the string. There should be a kink in the string where it was in the tuner. If you see that, your tuner is working fine.

DM me clear pictures of the tuners, a receipt of purchase and your info and address. And I'll get you a brand new set of Schaller tuners buddy.

Somethings not adding up here

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

Seriously he has avoided all questions in regards to the problem. User error

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

It goes down to the bottom of the hole where the 4th string goes through

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

$141,000.00 for tuners ?
Does not compute.

IDK who's making Schaller now. Used to be Germany.
I suspect maybe China now IDK ?

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

OK Inspired with the feedback you all gave me today, I swapped one of the tuners that wasn't working with the 5th of 6th to the 4th string and guess what? It locks the way it should.... Problem solved !!!!

Re: Beware: Locking tuner Schaller blues

OK, Earlier this week wednesday morning I found the last Schaller tuner they promised me to send in my mailbox. Regards to Schaller after all and thanks again for the feedback here.
