Might want to go back and edit the title in the original post.

As for the trade, what is it you don't like in the Vox, and what are you hoping to get out of the Blues Jr.?

I'd take the Blues junior, there's just so much you can do to it to make it into a moster little amp......What kind on music do you play?

Re: Blondes Blues Junior For Ad50t ,thumbs Up Or Down

Blues Jr.
It sounds more like a Vox then the Vox Valvetonix amps. :)

Trading a tube amp for a digital amp is... well it's like trading your girlfriend for a camel.
Trust me.
I'm from the middle east.

Which reminds me... I need to go and buy her back.

Is the blues jr. a special edition? If so, I'd make the trade because you can always save up some cash and buy another Vox.

Re: Blondes Blues Junior For Ad50t ,thumbs Up Or Down

If the valvetronix is out of warranty, look up the effects loop mod and add that to it. Then buy a cheap ole $29 behringer EQ and run the effects loop through that. You suddenly have a vastly superior sounding amp. Also buy a Vintage 30 speaker in 8 ohms and put that in it too. It should then blow the Blues junior away.

Having never played the Vox, I dig the few BJs I've tried....and those were stock; I can only imagine what a little tone monster they could be with the proper mods.

***BJ = Blues Jr. ***

Minds out of the gutter boys, I'm a married man who reminisces fondly about the other version :D

So close to getting sigged on "I dig the few BJs I've tried," but you saved yourself with that last line. ;)

I'd stick with the Vox. More tonal options available and it takes pedals well. Just because it's all tube doesn't mean it'll sound good to you or for what you're going to use it for.

Scott, the AD50VT doesn't have an effects loop. Only the 100 watt head does (from the BBQ grill series anyway).

You underestimate the strength of the Valvetronix.

Fixed. :D

In general, I am neither a tube amp snob, nor am I a big fan of modeling. I think the Vox modelers sound great, and the tone options are almost endless. But my personal preference in this case would be a nice little tube amp (the Fender) with a bunch of pedals.

It would have one if he follows these instructions.

This is for the AD30VT, but I'll bet you can do the same to the AD50VT too. I doubt their circuitry excepting the power amp section is all that different.

Re: Blondes Blues Junior For Ad50t ,thumbs Up Or Down

The vox ADVT series sound so awful for me I can't even manage to play anything when plugging into one.

Hell, an AD30VT was messing me up so bad when I was playing I had to borrow someone's 15watt kustom to even get a half way organic tone.

Not saying they can't work for some people, but mine just sounds so damn metallic and anti-organic that it's not natural. Clean, distorted, overdriven... Doesn't make a difference, the bass also farts really bad even when turned all the way down.

Not only that, I can switch between a tele and a strat and there's hardly even a tonal difference.

I'd go for a blues junior over one of the voxs any day.

If there's something wrong with mine, someone please tell me. I'd like to be able to make it sound half way decent so I can sell it.

P.S. I'm not looking to start an arguement here since so many people have them. I carefully said "For me."

Ya know what, you're right. You could do the same thing to the 50. Only diff between the 30 and the 50 is the power amp (amount of power given), speaker size and overall enclosure size.

Mephis, change the speaker in your 30. It'll make a world of difference.

Having had a Valvetronix head and a Blues Junior (I did upgrade the speaker), I my personal preference is the Blues Junior by quite a bit. Yes, lots of tones available in the Valvetronix but I would (and did) trade the verstility for a warmer amp and some pedals that I think sound better than the Vox effects.
