Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!
I'm glad this thread is still around, because since you posted it, I decided to have my two 'main player' Les Pauls set up with these two combos. C-5/59 in a 57 R7 Goldtop prototype with a 59 profile neck, and a 2001 LP Std Prem Plus with CC/Seth, also a 59 profile neck and all are nickelcovered. The Les Pauls are virtually the same except I put the CC/Seth in the brighter of the two. My conclusion is that both are incredibly great in their own right. It honestly doesn't matter which LP I grab, both sound equally good. The C-5/59 is more articulate and has a punchier tone, but the CC/Seth Lover is slightly warmer and creamier, but killer. I think I like the 59 N better than the Seth, even tho the Seth sustains great. I may go for the C-5/59 and the CC/59. I'm finding that having my two main humbucking guitars setup that way to be much better than deeming one combo to be better than the other. Both is definitely the ticket! Those are my two favorite bridge pickups, so why not? I've also messed with C-3 and C-4, and have now come to the conclusion, after talking to Seymour, that my favorite pickup may be an overwound C-5, which adds slightly better mids.
Think of a C-5 that is 15.5 instead of 14.4 ohms. Closer to a JB, but with the C-5 sound, with a bit of added mids. That's my dream pickup, and I may have the Duncan Custom Shop make a couple of them.
