For this type of music I´d prefer the C5. Dunno why..it´s my thing somehow.
VERY NICE PLAYING!

@moon: Yeah it is o.O

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Not that I like the CC, but I felt the C5 is totally missing out in the mids... like a hollow punch. So comparing the two, the CC sounds better.

BTW, excellent playing there!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I'm glad this thread is still around, because since you posted it, I decided to have my two 'main player' Les Pauls set up with these two combos. C-5/59 in a 57 R7 Goldtop prototype with a 59 profile neck, and a 2001 LP Std Prem Plus with CC/Seth, also a 59 profile neck and all are nickelcovered. The Les Pauls are virtually the same except I put the CC/Seth in the brighter of the two. My conclusion is that both are incredibly great in their own right. It honestly doesn't matter which LP I grab, both sound equally good. The C-5/59 is more articulate and has a punchier tone, but the CC/Seth Lover is slightly warmer and creamier, but killer. I think I like the 59 N better than the Seth, even tho the Seth sustains great. I may go for the C-5/59 and the CC/59. I'm finding that having my two main humbucking guitars setup that way to be much better than deeming one combo to be better than the other. Both is definitely the ticket! Those are my two favorite bridge pickups, so why not? I've also messed with C-3 and C-4, and have now come to the conclusion, after talking to Seymour, that my favorite pickup may be an overwound C-5, which adds slightly better mids.
Think of a C-5 that is 15.5 instead of 14.4 ohms. Closer to a JB, but with the C-5 sound, with a bit of added mids. That's my dream pickup, and I may have the Duncan Custom Shop make a couple of them.

Yeah, what he said. I'm digging the CC. Smoother overall. More responsive. You are a good player, my friend.

Marin,

Excellent job. Beautiful tone on both, and great touch on the strings. Keep rockin'!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Wow thats cool that this thread is still around...its kinda a benchmark for these two popular pickups now

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I like them both and great playing BTW. I took Joneser he gave me a while back advice and have a 59n/C-5b combo on the way for my GAX70.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

CC - very round and smooth to my ears. It also seemed to have a bit more bloom/sustain to the notes.

Both sounded great but the CC edged out the C5 a notch for me.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I thought they both sounded great, especially the C5, until I heard your more recent Seth clips. Now these sound constipated to me. The Seths are just livelier and more responsive and prettier. Judging from all the clips I've heard, Seths are my favorite humbucker.

I would tend to agree.....;)

the CC and C5 are clearer under high gain though.

This should be stickied as a reference for decision making :)

It's a shame you didn't have a Custom (ceramic) clip as well :smack:

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I'm anxious to try out the custom shop EVH, which is like a CC with more top end.
MRID is sending me one to try out. Also, I sprung for the 50th Ann. A2 Seths.
I'm dying to see how those compare to the C-5, regular Seths, and CC.

Outside of those pickups, I still think a C-5 with a few hundred more winds, making it a 15.5 instead of 14.4 would be our ideal pickup. That's the pickup I'm making on Users Day.
