Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

too hard to call .. but i lean to the C5 ... i think

stellar tone and chops, as always, friend :-)

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I also like the CC. I have a C5 and it didn't do much for me. I had a CC and exchanged it for a 59, but I'm leaning back to getting the CC again or a JB. Good playing on both clips.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I like the C5 because of its better clarity. The CC sounds smooth, but has less variation to the tone. They both sound great.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

The C5 sounded smoother, the CC sounded fuller. I'd personally go for the CC.

I noticed his playing was more agressive with the CC...

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Thought the CC was more rounded off, the C5 a tad harsh and cutting, but still cool... though I'd have to go for the CC!

Didn't the history of the C5 directly have something to do with the members of this very community?

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Personally for this piece of music the C5 sounds better. the CC has too much output and sounds too compressed not as much character as the C5. Great playing.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

BTW... where would the custom fit in this.... seems we all agree the CC is smoother and sounds very nice. C5 has bite and good tone. So the Custom would be?????

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

For the style, the CC ownes the C5. That said, I have a C5 and love it too.

****ing Hails MarinBlues.
Man, i liked BOTH .
the C5 is smoother, and the CC(that i own too) is Warmer but still keep the smoothness.. less than the c5 i guess.
do you agree?

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

CC- C5 was too trebly and nasally. CC was smoother and more balanced. Nice licks too!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I loved the cc. The c5 is too trebly and harsh. It sounds like it could be a good 80s hair metal pickup though. Record more of those with different pickups!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

It's a hard call. I know the sound of the C-5, since that's what I use in most of my humbucking guitars. I think for this style of music, the C-5 has the right sound, mostly because of it's vintage top end and good midrange tone. Much of your music sounds like it's better mated with the CC, so I'm gonna have to suggest that you have both pickups in your two main guitars. My wheels are turning right now, about putting a CC in my brightest LP, along with it's Seth Lover Neck. I've had a C-5, then tried a C-4, hoping to get more mids, but along with that came a more articulate hifi quality, so I went back to the C-5. Maybe it's time to try a CC in that guitar. C-3 interests me bigtime, like you.

Could you elaborate on "hifi quality"? thanks.

I found the midrange on the C5 quite inadequate. On the other hand the CC can be OTT sometimes and could do with a bit more treble on the top end.

Basically, I would like something which 70% CC and 30% C5.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

for this guitar the cc sounds so much better. it realy cuts thru nicely and shines so well. it is more pronounced sounding but in a good way. I know the cc doesnt sound great when your jamming alone but in the mix the cc realy cuts thru and sounds nice. for this guitar Ide stay with the cc. if you want fuller sounds you may have to go more vintage c5 pickup like the 59 but realy would you hear the 59 diff in a big mix? I could hear the c5 and cc diff but thats due to increased mid range from cc that made it sound so much better between takes. Dr Barlo likes a c5 pearly gates in a guitar like yours. I have one in a vintage trem strat. by it self it sounds realy gritty and lots of presence but in the mix it cuts thru nice. guess thats your next hurdle, what sounds good with your equipement in the mix? To me? if your not already out playing you should be. if your playin out for now ide stay cc till you find something better. :beerchug:

Nice playing! I liked the CC a little more better because it sings more with the high notes.

definitely... that makes this pickup. even though I liked the bite of the c5 alot... I vote for cc!

I must say I'll have to go with the majority and say that I like the CC better... just a little smoother and rounder sounding.

Great playing!

I guess "hifi" isn't the best description, but the C-4 is colder sounding than the C-5, and harder feeling under the fingers. Extremely articulate, though, like a Jazz bridge might be. Still, I like the bass and touch sensitivity of the C-5 and the thickness of the CC. My taste is pointed right in between those two, which is why I wish Duncan would make a Custom line
Custom
Custom 2 change the name of the CC
Custom 3
Custom 4 great in dark or muddy guitars like Explorers or semihollows
Custom 5
