Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I liked both clips and I thought both pickups sounded dang good. The C5 had a nice top end bite to it and the CC just sang a bit more. I can see tons of uses for both. I voted for the CC but I would have liked Marin to do a lip using the JB too. I would have like to have heard that pickup compared to the other two.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I thought the C-5 sounded fatter to my ears, bigger in a way to my ears. I could hear the big mids in the CC though. What value pots were used in this guitar? Any rhythm clips?

smooth or organic? I vote organic with the C5. I'm assuming it's a strat (styled), and it sounds more like a strat should. less compressed, more pronounced harmonics. With pickups like that it's easier to let them know what you're feeling through the touch of your hand. CC seems like it would be the better choice if the gain was 10 fold, however that crosses over into a new genre.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I think your playing on the CC track was better, but I prefer the tone of the C5. It has a bite to it that I really enjoy.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

how about a clip with the custom ceramic with that same guitar and cool sound?
that would revive this poll for a long time

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I know I am late to this party but -

I wish I could hear the vocal. If the vocalist is powerful I would pick the CC because it has more of an Aerosmith kinda 70s era power.

If the vocalist is more in the classic realm, or is a maybe a female (who doesn't sing like Janis or Etta James) I would pick the C5.

I think as a player you dug in more with the CC because it gave you a lot more ballsy power, and seemed to add break up.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I agree with Olin - would depend on other parts of the accompaniment. As a straight guitar tune, each has its strengths & weaknesses - C5 has great bite but I hear a less balanced midrange...CC is smoother, more sustain (lesss tring pull?) & more balanced but not as much bite.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Maybe why sooooo many choose the JB. Hard to beat this pickup in the context of a band!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

It just seems to me like the CC has a bit of a fuzzy top end (treble). I do like the mids better though.

A Custom 5 in an all mahogany guitar though, that's the best of both worlds? I know that's the setup that Godin uses in the lg and I think it sounds wicked....

Great playing on both clips. You rock, man!

I'll add my vote for the CC, creamier and fuller. Although I also like the raw edginess of the C5. Tough call, both are great!

Incidently, I think Seymour probably owes you a few bucks. I'm sure this thread has caused a few extra sales of both CC's and C5's!

Cheers

Wow, I'm glad that somebody unearthed this old thread! What an eye opener for me.

I use and love the C5 in my LP Custom, but from those two clips, the CC is the clear winner to my ears. More tone, more balls, more mojo, more vibe....

Okay, enough hype talk. Not much to say - just that between the two clips presented, the CC clip is significantly better to me.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Each sounds great, and each has its place. For the type of music the backing track calls for, I prefer the C5. I'm not sure why everyone's saying the CC is creamier. I'd say the C5 is creamier, and the CC is ballsier. The C5 has more Roy Buchanan to it, and the CC has more Billy Gibbons to it.

I know Marin tried to play similarly in each of the two tracks, but the edgy CC had him tearing and hot-dogging more than the C5. The CC just begs for that kind of playing. I think Marin played the two pups just the way they want to be played.

In the end, I prefer the C5 for the particular track.

Nice playing!

I feel that the C5 had a more aww like tone and a touch more brightness to it. It had less sustain and punch but seemed more articulate to me.

The CC seemed hotter, darker and had more sustain than the C5.

I did like the C5 more though!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I liked the C5 more...just a little more 'bite' to it which made the solo stand out on top of the backing.

They are both cool though.....
