Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

Just trying to save some money:

I have a Rockmaster preamp which i only use for its Hi gain channel. And i have a Marshall JMP-1 preamp. Would it be possible for me to keep the Rockmaster in the FX Loop of the Marshall JMP-1 ?
That way i could program a clean patch on the JMP-1 with the FX loop on and the clean signal would then go the Rockmaster's hi gain channel. I would save money on buying a Loop switcher and channel switcher.

I haven't heard of this being done. Would this just induce noise and be more trouble than its worth in preserving tone ?

Thought i'd ask.
Thanks
Faisal

you said you have both... why you haven't tried yet?
In my opinion using a preamp in another preamp induce a lot of noise.

Re: Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

That's exactly why i haven't tried it yet, but i guess better to try and report than ask here. And because i use my 5150 as a poweramp, i keep forgetting that i can use its preamp as well. I guess i will need a loop switcher eventually.

Thanks for your reply!

Re: Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

you need a midi looper to select any of your 3 preamps. I would suggest the Glab 4x loop M4L. Since the Rockmaster and the 5150 aren't midi controllable, probably you would need a midi channel switcher as well like the Glab amp controller. With all that gear, you will be better with the Glab midi guitar controller MGC-6 which can switch channel and use 6 loops, 3 for your preamps and extra 3 for some pedals... :naughty:
add to that a midi foot controller as well... too much gear :barf:

hey thanks dude. I didn't know of that brand. I was thinking more like GCX or Patchmate Loop 8.

Yes, tell me about it. I'm actually not very happy about this scene. But i don't have access to gear shops so collected all this gear when i got really good deals and few choices.

Wish i just had ONE versatile halfstack or combo...no midi involved ever!
Thanks for ur post !

Re: Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

the 5150 isn't versatile enought? as far as i know, the rockmaster is apparently the same preamp of the 5150.
I have the Patchmate loop 8. You can use any of the loops to switch channels in your amp (it needs to be setup in that way)... the only problem is you will need A LOT of connectors and obviously a midi foot controller.
Don't be afraid of midi. Midi can be very useful.

Thanks for the post dude. Yup midi is great and i love it in the studio but i do prefer simply rigs which i dont have the option of.
Its very expensive to import heads and stacks in my country so i built my rack one by one. Now i have a head and 2 preamps, and 2 more Rockmasters coming.
Then, i like stompboxes in the front and FX in the loop. So i really cant do without midi switching and lots of cables!!

Yup, i have my eyes on the Loop 8 and the Loop 8 floor for the stomp boxes.
Cheers man!

It will be harder than driving a truck with manual transmission :)

Re: Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

^I use patchmate loop 8 to run pedals in front and in the loop of 2 tube preamps. I call the presets using Ground Control midi foot controller (the old version).
Complex to install but when it's done, it's very easy to use.

Re: Can a preamp be in another preamp's loop ?

I used to enjoy setting up my midi rack when i owned one years ago.
Am looking forward to it again, but it is a bit of a pain to set up so many loops, patches, channels, IA's, CC's, expression pedals, etc.........

Hmmm. now i'm looking at the Ground Control too!
Cheers!!
