Luke-

Well, maybe "more" reasonable is accurate then.

When SRV was in full swing, I was playing metal with Marshalls and really didn't pay much attention to what the vintage Fender amp market was doing at the time. So if they were that much more expensive, my bad. To be honest, I didn't see many BF's in my area shops, not that I was looking either.

I didn't mean to imply that SF's would be AS collectable as a BF, Brown or Tweed in any way, shape or form. I was just stating my opinion that you'd still ruin any resale value (whatever that is-super high dollar or not) by modding the amp.

i still vote you come get this 2x12 matching fender cab outta my house since it's taking up needed room in my workshop and collecting dust better than the shop vac! :9:

How 'bout I give you an address upstate? Drive it up there this summer, tell my wife it's a priceless vintage speaker cabinet, and she has to bring it back with her (and the 4 kids, and the 2 dogs) in the minivan when the vacation's over.

Re: Can I really handle the 8's ?????????

Get a repro cab from Mojo with the baffle cut in..........

Or if you want a combo, get a repro 2x10 to match the Lux....have the chassis cut for the BM.

:dunno:

OR you can use the old fallback & just sell it & be done with it :D

Re: Can I really handle the 8's ?????????

I was seriously considering a V Front Blackface cab! How pimp would that be!!! I just dont want to spend more on a cab than the amp cost.

Re: Can I really handle the 8's ?????????

Funny thing when the silver face stuff was mentioned above, but in 30 years, those silver faced fenders are going to be valuable. Mark my words. :) Especially the ones that were NOT modded to blackface specs. Intact original examples are going to be the bee's knees. I think I might just start a collection of old amps that no one else is that interested in right now. Call it my 401A (a for amp).

Greg, dont' screw that head up. Just have a new baffle cut for it and put the old baffle away for good measure.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree Scott.

A lot of those SFs just sounded mediocre at best when compared to their BF counterparts. An old bad sounding amp is an old bad sounding amp. The only way I see those really appreciating is if the next guitar god uses one in stock form.

I figure the BFed ones will be more desirable than the non-BFed ones because they will sound much better, and those modders will mostly be dead adding to the esoteric factor like the Diaz modded amps.

Like Skarekrough it boggles my mind that so many people put so much money into old gear simply as "an investment" there's only so much the market is going to bear, and when we hit that point, or the West goes into an economic tailspin people will only get a paltry amount compared to their previous prices.

I hope I'm wrong I've got a SF twin I'd LOVE to see appreciate!

100% man. I would never do that!!! Have you ever looked at how easy it is to replace a baffle on that particular head?

Re: Can I really handle the 8's ?????????

And BTW Luke. Notice the SF's I own. Those are the ones that (IMO At least) still sound incredible in stock form. There is no doubt that a lot of models are way too loud, clean and sterile sounding. It took a lot of convincing for me to have the Lux even BFd. I am glad I did, but honestly would still be happy just having it recapped.

The speakers and great tubes are what REALLY changed the tone on my Lux to my ear at least. Christian will probably argue with me on that one.
