If I was a gigging musician, yes. Very much so. Even if not, yes. If it was a Hughes and Kettner Alex Lifeson TriAmp.

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

and from what I have read lately, Herr Ford would have to part with somewhere in the neighborhood of $20K for a Dumble these days:no1: :yell:

If you can afford the amp and you like the way that it sounds, do it. Who cares what a bunch of knuckleheads say? What do you expect to hear from a bunch of people, most of whom can't afford that kind of thing?

Would you pay $75,000 for a car? People buy Mercedes Benz every day. Does it make them idiots?
Just to be clear, creating this thread was only to amuse my curiosity, and will not influence my mindset.

But I see where you're headed with this one...

**** all of you penny pinchers!

...am I right? Rob?...Rob, where'd you go? :wall:

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

But I haven't been at this long enough.......if i had the cash, i would spend $150k+ on a badass Eurotrash sports car or $10k+ on a Bill Moran knife or $15K+ on a stereo amp so who knows what i would say a few years from now.....i'm just not convinced that we aren't talking about some SERIOUS diminishing returns with some of the combos.....my limit on guitars so far hasbeen the R9......i'm up to bit over $4k on tha one, but that was a manic momement:laugh2:

Even though I don't have a 3K amp and don't ever expect to have one, I say yes I can justify it. Can an amp be worth $3000? Of course!! If an individual deems it to be, for them it is then worth it. Would I personally go $3K in debt for an amp? No, my enjoyment of the amp would be offset by the pressure of the debt!

But it is relative to both your financial means and how important it is to you personally to own a given amp. For instance, I personally won't (at this point anyway) spend $30K or $40K on a vehicle, but I know tons of people who do it. It just is not that important to me, although I could finance one if I chose to. But if I got Jonesin' for an $3k amp bad enough, for me that would add more pleasure and enjoyment to my life that owning a $30K-$40K vehicle. It's all about what resources you have and how you choose to allocate them.

Or compare it to spending $3K on a vacation, I've done it, lot's of people do it. Is it worth it? You have to ask the individuals! With a vacation, the value you have is experiences and memories. On the other hand, with an amp you've got something tangible to enjoy on and on. So... I should've just said YES and left it at that!
No, that was great reasoning/thinking. Thanks for sharing your (not-short-enough) opinion. ;)

I've got a lot of time on my hands.:chairfall Yes, That's just parts. If you factor in the time I've spent in design and assembly, Then equate that with the hourly rate a skilled tradesman would make. Now we're talking 2x's the price. But it's a labor of love.:) Even when I paint a guitar, If you add all the hour's of prep work, sanding and final rub out. I make next to nothing.:smack:
Well, then, since it's a labor of love, then there's no real price that be put on it. Looking forward to hearing/seeing it when it's done. I'd like to build my own one day but for now, 9-18v circuits suit me just fine. ;D

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

I'm back. Buy it and then rub it in our faces, you austentatious bastard.

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

I only can't for the simple reason that if i did I couldn't have more than one amp.

MOREOVER, I would be scared ****less at gigs. I already freak over my vintage amps at gigs, but thankfully, I got them CHEAP, regardless of their inflated worth.

Regardless, for every guy with a $3000 amp who isn't on a good record label with amazing endorsements, I always see kick ass players in clubs playing sub $1000 equipment. No offense to anyone who is spending big bucks - but damn I'd rather be gigging. To those of you with huge money gigs (I mean music only), hope to be in your shoes someday SOON!

I'm going to have to look that one up...austentatious...

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

I think I would be able to be satisfied with an amp which costs much less, having left over money for other gear-related goodies.

If you're rich, you can get the 3k amp and all your goodies!

Even if I was rich, I don't think I would spend that extra proportion of money on a boutique amp than your usual standard amp because the return for me wouldn't be as high. First, I need to invest in becoming a sound player.

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

Oh, I'm sorry...it appeared that you spelled OSTENTATIOUS wrong, you illiterate fool!

And no! I'm not ostentatious! Prick! >:O~~

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

Buying the amp doesn't make me ostentatious. If I put it in my signature and followed up my purchase with a new thread dedicated to my new holier than thou amplifier...then yes, I suppose that would make me ostentatious.

I'm guessing it's the Mojave Peacemaker? Am I right?

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

only if you will get the money back using it.

it's utterly stupid to buy that kind of amp for home use only. but if you are going to record with it, gig with it and earn money with it, by all means, do so!!

it's mindless for me to buy a 2.5k splawn (or whatever they go for) if i wont be using it in its natural enviroment.. but a 400$ laney is right up my alley.

Re: Can You Justify Spending $3000 on a "Boutique" Amplifier?

Does the Electric Amps 120 cost over $3000?

If so, then yes; yes I would.

There are plenty of people gigging with Epiphones and Crate combos that won't get their money back using it. Until you get pretty successful you aren't going to make much cash playing live. Many people are lucky to get their beers paid for.....
