Basswood's a great wood for high-gain stuff. I found my Ibanez RG's a little lacking for really any significant depth or character in clean stuff. Same with the Universe I has as well.
The Blaze pickups are really terrible pickups. Ibanez has almost consrtantly sold their 7 strings short by using cheap pickups in them. Even a cheap RG7620 I got ahold of became a totally different beast after I put a Tone Zone 7 in the bridge and a PAF Pro 7 in the neck. Why they do the same on the Universe is almost wholly beyond me.
I would suggest keeping the Universe; if you like the way it plays and it's working for you in that sense then hang onto it. I loved mine but I could just never warm up to it that way. I spent about a year and a half trying to but it just never happened.
