Can't make a choice between both Prails for my SG !!!

Re: Can't make a choice between both Prails for my SG !!!

Well, still undecided !! ahah!

As far as music goes, I'll play some classic rock with it for sure, but it'd also be for a slow, thick and heavy stoner band !

Triple shots sound seducing, but really I won't use both rails on their own (I think he you want to use them and have "true" hot rail tone, you rather swap the pickup direction, I'll get myself a Strat or a Tele one of these days, for true single coil tone I guess). I'm really looking for a P90 sound with having the possibility to switch back to humbucker serie mode if I feel like I need it (as being an humbucker guy).

On paper, sure the regular seems to be hot enough when in series, and anyway, with modern amplifiers, you can get plenty of gain with low output pickups. I wonder though how hot is the P90 on the hot version ?

As far as magnet goes, I have no idea what I prefer between A5 and A8....as I never had an A8 magnet pickup before (only A2, A5 and ceramic).

I know A8 is supposed to be warmer than A5 while having some of the agressive edge of a ceramic one.

Don't know which one would suit best a P90 into an SG. Which one is brighter to begin with ?

Re: Can't make a choice between both Prails for my SG !!!

You can always add gain......stick a fuzzbox on top etc. You cannot 'take it away'.

Try the regular P-Rails. Wire it up the way you like it. I doubt you'd want more gain than those, but if you do, you could do it from your amp or effects. Or buy both and keep the one you want, and sell/return the other one.

I had forgotten you had that one... didn't you end up hunting around for those covers and finally finding some that just snapped on? Pretty cool...

I forgot where I found those covers online but I know I paid less than 10 for the set and they popped right on. I added a touch of silicone on top later and drop of glue from the cover to the plate.
