Cheap

Re: Cheap

We don't really get Schecters over here so I can't really comment on them, although I've heard nothing but good things about them from my American buddies.

The Yamaha AES (? not sure if that is the right range?) are brilliant though. I think they're a bit ugly to be honest but you can't have it all I guess.

I saw Coheed and Cambria about a year ago and they just used Gibsons the whole time. Les Pauls and Explorers. If you're after a similiar sound I'd recommend going down the tune-a-matic route for the bridge. If you're interested in this, post back and I'll tell you everything I know about it. Not all that much :-)

Thanks,
Benja

Re: Cheap

Used Jackson Soloist Archtop Pros would also fit well into those criteria, as well as some Charvel 750XLs .

The SLSMG is Neckthru but otherwise also fits, and can be had brand new for within that range as well ;)

As you can see, the dark side has MUCH more to offer than you may think :headbang:

Re: Cheap

I know the Schecter Tempest is like that, it's about the same weight and thickness as a les paul but doesn't have the same access problems.

Looking for a nice guitar that fits these qualifications:

Set-Neck
2 Humbuckers
Mahogany Neck
Mahogany Body
Ebony or Rosewood Fret Board
Through-Body Strings

In a price range of 500-700 dollars.

I know it is not a set neck but give the Godin LG a try.... www.godinguitars.com

The LG is all mahogany and comes with some cool pickups and nice string thru design. good little tone machines for the cash....

As mentioned the Carvin CT3M is a really nice choice.
But is a bit more than your spending.
The one above is $839 + $44 for the case + $19 for shipping.

The other is the new Schecter C1 Exotic.
This has caught my eye. Especially since Carvin hasn't offered a 24 fret CT version yet.
CONSTRUCTION/SCALE: Set-Neck w/ Ultra Access /25.5"
BODY: Mahogany w/ Solid Flame Maple Top
NECK/FINGERBOARD: 3-pc. Mahogany/Ebony
FRETS: 24 Jumbo
INLAYS: Dots
PICKUPS: Schecter Super Rock II
ELECTRONICS: Vol/Vol/Tone(tap)/3-Way
BRIDGE: TonePros TOM w/ thru-body
BINDING: Creme (neck/headstock)
TUNERS: Grover
HARDWARE: Chrome
COLOR: Natural Oil (NAT)

They sell around $799. I believe Drumcity/Guitarland was even including a case for a short time. Not sure if they still are.

One more thought.

If your not stuck on Brand name. Like Schecter Diamond or ESP LTD.
Check out the Cort KX series.
They make Diamond and LTD.
The KX are very similar in design.
Are usually much less in cost.

Re: Cheap

OH!

By the way, the top on the Schecter C1 exotic is not a veneer like on the Classic or Plus.
It is an actual carved flamed maple top.

Another reason these are catching my eye.
There's a lot of guitar there for $799.

Re: Cheap

The Charvel 750xl and Jackson Arch Top Pro are amazing guitars, I've got 2 750xls myself. However, they have a maple set neck on mahogany body with maple top. If you're set on a mahogany neck, but can deal with a stop tail instead of true string thru, check out a used Hamer USA Special, with or without the flame maple top. I've got a Special FM and it is an absolute killer axe, priced very reasonably for the quality as well.

Re: Cheap

I think it may be more helpful if you let us know what kind of music you are going to play with your guitar before we make a recommendation.
