C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

'67/68 small box plexi/ creme back panel 50 watt... why do people keep making me remember what a prat I've been??????????????????????????

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

An old tube Dynacord amp, slightly modified for guitar.
The cab had two old Celestion red 10" speakers.
Still have the parts, it died within a year.
Bought a Vox, and a Park75 with 4x12 basketwave cab after that.
Also had a short stint with a dreadful Mesa studio preamp...hated it the instant I used it.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Peavey 5150 II with JJ power tubes and sovtek preamp. It certainly was a loud kick in the taint.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Marshall DSL combo, sold it for the JMP. They sure don't make them like they used to.

my peavey windsor stack with a slant cab. sounds great with the speakers broken in and new preamp tubes, tons of warmth and mids.

Go big or go home.

The irony is that, if you just stay home anyway, you don't need big.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

First amp I ever played through for several years wasn't strictly mine - but it lived at my house and I loved it to pieces so it has to count - was a '65 JTM45 Mk.II (ali chassis, ali panel - pre plexi) sitting on an angle-fronted 4x12 Celestion loaded cab Model 1960, also dating from '65. (It had Alnico magnets, so I am guessing they were early G12's).

When it went away, I pined for years, chasing the sound through a lot of amps, many of which came close, many more of which didn't. After over thirty years of looking/listening I lucked on a 6G6-A Bassman head which just sings into my 4x12 Fane/Goodmans cab. So I have gone full circle plus a bit. First amps are like first lovers. Special.....

JCM900 Dual Reverb... got rid of it pretty soon and picked up a SL Mark III before eventually going rack ;)

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

My 1st valve amp was a 100w JCM800 2210 head which my dad bought me for christmas when I was 15 for £200 on the condition that I bought the cab :)

Still have the head and the cab (stock Marshall 1936 2x12) but don't use it much cos it's louder than buggery :D

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Tube Works MosValve combo. SS preamp with a couple of 6L6 power tubes.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

A 50-watt Marshall combo. I think it was a jcm800. With a Boss Super OD, it got old thrash like no one's business. I didn't even know what a tube was when I had it. Paid like $300 for it.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

A Fender Vibrolux Reverb was passed down to me and that's what I started on, although it's never worked out with anything I've done (my music is too rock oriented for it). I can't quite recall what my first tube amp purchase was, I think it was a Hughes & Kettner Triamp (the old school Mk 1 version).

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

My first was a JCM 900 100 watt half stack. After that I owned probablly 6 or 7 Crate Blue VooDoos. Over the years, I have owned tons of tube amps. Now I rock DSL 100's.
