Coppercaster

This pine body build started out planned to be a clear finish, but I decided The grain was too ordinary. So then I tried finishing with Mopar Granite Crystal metallic, which came out horribly. I then tried Reranch Fiesta Red which came out too salmon colored.

All along I had put the project down amd gone back to it. Finally (2+ years later) I landed on Duplicolor Burnt Copper Metallic. Wow, what a great color (not yet clear coated)...

Re: Coppercaster

I'm still thinking through pickups, pickguard, rings etc. here are some mock up ideas. Im leaning towards both pickups covered (maybe black bridge/covered neck) but not sure on pickguard +1 ring vs no pickguard and 2 rings. Any opinions?

Re: Coppercaster

Wow, I really like that color. Make sure you post a pic when it is done!

Re: Coppercaster

i dig the color! not sure about the chrome rings but i like no pickguard

Re: Coppercaster

No pickguard for sure. The double-black looks cool, both covered does as well.

Re: Coppercaster

That color is definitely cool. I like it both with and without the pickguard. Have you tried a black pickguard on it? It would be a nice third option.

Re: Coppercaster

thats a great color on that guitar, I think on something that nice that the pickguard would diminish from that beautiful color. I'd keep the pickup covers. it dresses that thing up nice

Re: Coppercaster

No pickguard, black pickups and rings, I think.

Color reminds me of a McLaren MP4-12C that lives near me

Re: Coppercaster

Cool color!! At first, I thought the chrome rings were out of place. But, of all the mockups, I like the first one best!!!

Re: Coppercaster

The black rings don't look right. Great color but may be hard to match hardware to. Or more likely, it's just my poor fashion sense. :33: I usually hate chrome/metallic rings but they may be the best match considering the color and the switch plate.

Awesome color for sure!
I tend to agree with Taz Rules on the no pickguard and black puppies and rings.
Maple or Rosewood fretboard?

Re: Coppercaster

Apologies if I'm blind as a bat and overlooked it...but what type of neck? Maple? Maple+Rosewood? Mahogany/etc.?

I really like the double Chrome; however, an all Maple neck with black dots/inlays would make me lean towards the black pickups with chrome rings...

Re: Coppercaster

You guys would be more help if there was any consensus of opinion :D

I have a maple/maple Warmoth neck so I will start with that, but might give a dark rosewood or even ebony a try. I first want to see how it plays and if it is characteristically warm or bright and then decide if I want to drop more $ into it. I could see a Gibson scale ebony/flame maple looking pretty sweet

Haha yeah really, but you asked, and with 10 versions to choose from and 2000 people, what did you expect?

I would wait to add the pickguard until last if you decide to, only because if you change your mind, you'll have holes left over. The rest can be mixed and matched all the live long day. Honestly, there aren't really any bad ideas you have so I'm sure you'll settle on something pretty cool.
The maple board will look nice by the way..

Re: Coppercaster

Definitely agree to wait on the pickguard until the very end.

Roasted Maple is the way to go IMO ;)
