Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

More stupid than crazy was my friend Weston who wanted a new bad ass finish on his Hamer Slammer and thought that bullet holes would freaking look great. Cant say I talked him out of the idea (I might have actually cheered him on a bit) So we take it outside the city limits and I loan him my 45ACP to shoot it with. He lays the body on the ground and stands over it. Wham! the force from the shot not only caves in the control cavity but the body split a long the glue seems on one side, Literally blowing it apart. There was no saving it. But it was worth the laugh to see him crap his pants when the body exploded then the dejected sad look on his face when he saw the outcome...

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

My Uncle once built a double neck guitar/bass. He took an early 80's Harmony V and hacked the Treble wing of the body off and then pegged and glued it to a P Bass knock off that he had cut the bass side off.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

nothing too crazy. I did hack up my first electric guitar with a hack saw, power sanded the paint off the remaining part of the body and repainted it. I had a lot of fun with that guitar and learned a lot too.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Someone took a semi rare instrument (DT150 destroyer) that was in excellent condition and burned it with a blow torch for awesome ****tyness before I obtained it.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Drilled an inch-wide hole in the body of some Ibenhad; stuck an appropriate-sized bolt through and screwed on a nut.

Why?

Because I could.

Other shenanigans:

- carved with knife a slot for 5-way selector on a Kramer
- carved with knife a neck single coil route on same Kramer; pickup wire ran on top of body to under the bridge humbucker

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

I have converted 24 fret HH guitars to 22 and SHH :knockedou

Lucky for him that it didn't ricochet straight back at him.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

One of my friends butchered a nice G & L Strat neck by attempting to scallop it using some regular files.

Not as bad as this infamous botched scallop job, but close:

^^
Almost looks like a cheap neck on a sitar knock off.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Well if you are too stupid take care of a guitar you probably have way bigger problems.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

When I was first starting out, I didn't really understand the concept of action and though heavy strings and high action were good for metal. By the time I was done, I was stringing up with 54's in standard and action high enough to play slide, and that's about it. Sorta like when Larry LaLonde let Lifeson play his Floyd Rose Strat "You actually play this?"

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Had one who had complained that his trussrod rattled!
Now he did stop the rattle.
He had filled the small cavity with epoxy, had removed the adjustment head as well......

Looked alittle sheepish, then asked, errm can you fix this???
Yes of course I said.....

That was the end of a Fender 62 ri neck.

Re: Crazy things that people have done to their guitars

Oh that reminded me ^^

I restored a sweet as original ibby radius that was painted pups and all in fish oil. It was left for a few years in its case afterwards.

I ''borrowed'' the beehive knobs off it. hehe. Glad i did too

Trying to build a Strat body with only saw, big file, chisel and hand drill. At least I learned something about it. :)

Nice round; my favorite.
Yeah its a great round, that particular gun has a story to it.

Yeah but no wise decisions were made by either of us that day...

Funny enough he did actually eventually do the bullet hole finish thing to another guitar... but he used a drill press for the holes that time... Doesnt look nearly as cool as you would think.

Then you get muppets who think they are cool and do this to a guitar :
