Crunchlab / Liquifire

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
So I have been neglecting this guitar for a bit, but I have a couple of shows coming up where I want to use it. So I've been working out on it and adjusting tuning/floyd/pickups/strap etc. getting stage ready-comfortable.

I have to say - I REALLY dig the CL/LF pair!

I did the Crunchlab Petrucci style (even though I'm not a follower of his stylings), with the crunchy bar away from the bridge - and I think it is crunchy as hell. So no worries there! Nice and hot, but a big sound. It's like a pickup for amps that need an OD boosting to tighten things up - but it doesn't need the OD. In a dark guitar id probably flip the bar to the bridge.

And I am really really digging the Liquifire in the bridge. Almost like a high output PG to my ears, but with tighter bass. It has a nice tight bass response, a pretty sporty mid punch/cut, but not overly smooth on the high end. Cuts nicely, and works well with the tone control. Been playing Malmsteen licks (badly) with it. Really nice neck solo or rhythm sound.

Highly recommend 10/10

I really like that set. Some times I get a bit tired of the Crunch Lab because it can be a bit... dry or clinical or something?? But that set always ends up back in one Ibanez or another eventually. I like the 7 string version of them too.

And I open this thread specifically to hear some clips.
I should have known better.

You know what? You are right.

Next 4 nights are Kung Fu / Work Band / Kung Fu / Hollywood...when I'll be playing this guitar. But Friday night, I'm in CTFO mode and I will make some clips!

Some people might call "Dry / Clinical" tight and articulate. I can see I wouldn't want to use it with a Fender Twin though. And while not a 7 String guy, I think I can see how both would work for that extra low down.

I'm especially digging the neck Tightness + Smoothness and Punch.

Note, there is no tone control on that guitar.

I love the CL/LF combo in the right guitar. Lots of sound combinations there.

LF in the bridge is also a huge win. It's like a lower output CL in many ways, with a smooth, but articulate sound.

When I tried the CL, I didn't think it was particularly tight, but I was also mostly running EMG 81's at that point, so...

I always wanted to try the LF since it's a hotter neck pickup than the usual Duncan.

I have a Blackout. Yeah, it isn't Blackout tight.

You really should pick up an old Zoom video recorder. It would make things a lot easier for you.

All apologies...had a great steak dinner, fell asleep in the recliner!

Then I started getting way over ambitious

I'll finish this up this afternoon

Come on!
You've seen the stuff that I'm willing to post up. You certainly have nothing to be afraid of.

OK - Six minutes of Crunch Lab / Liquifire

Dean Zone 2: 25 1/2 scale maple neck, one vol, no tone, Floyd.

I did some random rhythms, always CL first, then LF, alternating, then some known songs alternating, and then random wankery at the end, both CL and LF.

Done with my POD Go. Mostly JCM 800 goosed with an SD1. Added some delay to Poison/Rat. Not sure what Metallica was. Delay/Reverb on solos. Last riff Reverb only.
