I just got my A8 magnet from Wymore yesterday. But I remember now that I haven't heard what people say about it with a mahogany guitar? And how is the split clean sound?
it sounds somewhat like the last clip on my page, just not as compressed(i used a ton of compression). split tones from a8 are great, there's not as much output loss and the mids are still very present, you just get a little less low end and a spanky top end.
there's a dot missing inbetween www seymour in that link. sorry about that:laughing:
with all this A8 talk...i think itd really add a lot to an EMG 81. too bad those bastards are impossible to crack open.

Custom 8's are great pups.
If I can get hold of another custom I may well put one in my Kramer instead of the JB, or I could go for a JB 8![]()
My A8 magnet is on its way from Wymore Guitars... and my "vintage" MJ-wound Custom arrived yesterday. Very excited to finally try a Custom 8. Been reading about it for years on the forum...
Instead of trying to describe it... I wish people would just post clips.
I'd be interested in hearing this.
Lot easier to listen to something than have to take their word for it.
I need to start magnet swapping!!!
I'm chiming in here again after I finally swung the time to swap 'em. So far, I'm really liking the C8! The C5 was really nice as well, but a bit too bright, and was a bit weak in volume compared to the Jazz neck. The C8 seems to balance on both accounts. The lead sounds are really good on this too. Sounds big! I swapped them yesterday, so I'll evaluate it over a longer time span, but it's looking good now.![]()
