hi
i am going to buy these new strings
it says it 's better for hard bends

true ?
"D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend farther, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D’Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant, high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL’s provide more strength and up to 131% greater tuning stability by utilizing a completely reinvented wire drawing process coupled with a revolutionary “fusion twist” process for the plain steels. The reformulated nickel plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch."

if the string has less tension than before, ok but i don't know

Re: D'addario NYXL

The measured tension is the same as the regular XLs. I haven't noticed any difference in tension, either. What it means is that you can bend farther than with a regular XL.

Of course, this assumes you normally bend XLs beyond their breakage threshold. I have never broken a string before (well, there was this one time, but it was DR's sloppy ball end winding and not an actual break.)
I have enjoyed playing the NYXLs, though. I really love just cranking on them with a Floyd Rose. They hold up fantastically. They sound amazing, too.

Re: D'addario NYXL

i have bought one pack but i will wait before a test

the fact that they should be some strings easier for bending is really interesting for some guitars but i am an Elixir fan : so, i don't want to see a black strings after some days :)))

i have not really problems about bending farther than standard strings : i have just some problems about 10-46 with floyd and Epiphone (i must try 9-46 and loose sustain?)
or 9-42+floyd sometimes
or 9-46 + standard tremolo
less tension with the same gauge strings will be what i look for: does it exist?

i have really not liked Exp d'Addario, Cleartone and Ernie ball cobalt and coated : the strings became black or with dirt so fast
when Elixir stays with a bright color for a lot of months most of the times (i had a doubt about my strat but it's because it's hard to have a good look with this fingerboard)

Re: D'addario NYXL

hi !!
i made a comparison
1) NYXL d'Addario = they have less tension than the others
http://www.daddario.com/DADProductD...l_Wound__Super_Light_Top_Regular_Bottom__9_46
http://www.daddario.com/DADProductD...ound__Super_Light_Top___Regular_Bottom__09_46

2) ELixir

3 ) i don't now about Ernie Ball because there are not informations about this

so, yes, try the NYXL :) = less tension= more big bends

and for floyd rose, the marketing is stupid because we break the ball when we install a string for floyd rose system lol so we don't care about the anti - breaking protection lol

i will try 9-46 with my strat and if it's good for floyd rose with 9-42
and 10-46 too

Re: D'addario NYXL

I use D'Addario EXP and J-series, and Martin SP and SP Lifetime strings on my acoustics...medium gauge phosphor bronze.

I went to a D'Addario clinic a few weeks ago and they re-strung my Martin D-18GE with a set of the new N.Y. EXP-17s Phosphor Bronze strings. I'm impressed with how fast they settled in. No stretching needed. I've only got about three hours of play time on them. But wait...there's MORE!!!

After that initial settling, every time I open up the case, they are in tune. I'm a hard strummer, and when I put the guitar back in its case, they are in tune. This has been the case for each of the last four sessions.

Pretty impressive in my book.

Re: D'addario NYXL

I currently have NYXL sets on both of my guitars (a 10-52 on one and an 11-56 set on the other) and can honestly say that they are the best strings I've ever come across. Bends and vibrato definitely are easier, but the strings don't give too easily when I pick them. Their tone is also phenomenal; it's bright, but not harsh, and they really do sound better on palm mutes than any other string I've come across.

Don from D'Addario here - the test that features use use of a whammy bar isn't specifically about the ball-ends breaking loose so much as the breaking tension of NY Steel wire (the wire we use for the core and wrap on NYXLs), is substantially higher than music wire.

Re: D'addario NYXL

i have a pack / a set
the black pack is so beautiful and protected
i wonder if i can use it with a les paul floyd rose with 10_46 to 9-46 without checking the trussroad

Re: D'addario NYXL

I really like these strings. They feel more substantial, if that makes any sense, than a lot of regular strings. I'm always switching between 9s and 10s, and I find the NYXL 9s give me the benefit of the thinner strings, with a little more resistance or something like a set of 10s.

And the "longer lasting" thing is no BS, either. I usually change strings every three months (I'm a hobbyist, switch among 4 guitars fairly regularly). I've had a set of NYXL's on my 339 for 6+ months. I'm going to change them this week, but they are still good.

P.S. For the Canadians on the forum, Long and Mcquade has a really good deal right now, a back of four regular D'addario's and a pack of NYXL in a little tin box for like 20 bucks.

Re: D'addario NYXL

good review:)
i bought it to have my 10-46 strings easier to play for bends with floyd rose and Epiphone
i will test for a strat too

Re: D'addario NYXL

first impressions
yes, the bends are easy to make

better than 10-46 with Elixir strings (they were not brand new too)

i will pay attention to the color of my strings and i will write here:)
bends are very important so, maybe the nyxl is the ultimate string for bends?
i had enough of my Epiphone and hard bends
a strat too
or the problem was the elixir's?

Re: D'addario NYXL

they dont really break compared to normal strings i find, and sound better, they stay in tune way better as well, so you can pick a lighter gauge set and bend the crap out of them and they probably wont go out of tune.

Re: D'addario NYXL

during the installation, it seems they stay in tune faster than other strings

Re: D'addario NYXL

like the string is thinner than that of Elixir
the sound seems less powerful
but very easy to play
apparently must choose between the 2 features !!
