DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

Yeah, that video was one of the things that made me drop $180 on 2 kits.

I've spent the first half of the Grizzlies-Thunder game fixing the first row of my board. I THINK I've got it working now -- haven't had the balls to plug into the amp yet, but continuity seems to check out. Not sure how much faith I have that they will KEEP working, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

i can solder, but i have some lava cables. i got em because they are tiny. You just have to make sure that no shild wires contact the centre. Just keep working with each cable til you know its working.

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

what is ELC ?
It's what Lava Cable calls their flagship line of cables, apparently featuring 99.99% oxygen free copper conductor and 21pF/ft capacitance.

nice necro thread.

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

The biggest problem with soldering cables for your board is that you can't find connectors with heads that are small like the Lava or George L's.

Some soldered connectors just don't fit on a compact and fully loaded board.

^ Truth.

My board is now fully soldered and ugly as hell.

Edit: I just looked. It is a mix of soldered and solderless connections and is ugly as hell.

I use pancake jacks... don't know how they compare to solderless, but they are pretty damn compact.

Who makes the best quality versions of these? Or is it just something you buy the ends for and then get raw cable of whatever you like?

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

I have 2 sets of Planet waves solderless cables and they are pretty fantastic but not small and they sometimes lose connection inside after a few years but they just need to be reset and it it is an easy process takes a few seconds or 30. I always bought pancake jacks and put them together using whatever cable I had laying around. You can find them for a buck and change each if you look around.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

i know this is a necro thread from 2011, but seeing as people are adding posts i thought i'd chime in.
I have found them (Lava cables) to be too unreliable and have been in multiple situations trying to work out exactly where in my pedal chain things are going wrong. Its even happened at gigs. The damn things are too small and too fiddly and too unreliable for me. You need to get them just right and then make sure that the cable never gets moved at all. any form of movement and they run the risk of cutting out on you when the tightly packed wires potentially touch. They cost me a lot of money and are now sitting unused in a suitcase. What good is saving a few millimeters here and there if you can't rely on your gear?

I would not buy any of their products again, solderless or otherwise based on the arrogant way i was treated via email back when i voiced my complaint about their performance to the owner who basically said that everything was my fault and that thousands of other players have no problems at all with them. History, and threads like these prove that many users come across the same issues with Lava cables time and time again.

Good riddance i say. Regular style connections like switchcraft jacks with a solder connection are superior in every way.

Chip in here too...

I solder just about every day at my job, yet my pedal board is 80-90 percent planet waves solderless cables. Never have any issues once you get them right, or if you did (or had to change lengths like I did a few times) its a quick fix you can do anywhere. Funny enough the last cable I had to pull off my board was one I made/ soldered! My fauly for not checking it properly first but stilll....

Also, to the 3 year old OP, I think it is hilarious you tested them all with a multimeter instead of just plugging it in and giving it a wiggle. Goes to show...

Re: GOD. DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

solderless stuff sucks, just another marketing BS

I love this post!

But I have to finish two different boards… (Lazy and no time)

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

The switchcraft soldered "pancake" connectors are great, and are flatter than any others on the market. Their problem is that the diameter is so huge, they don't fit where two or more jacks are right next to each other (like an Octaswitch).

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

No issues with the GLS connectors go the Right Angle, Straight and pancake - available at Orange County Speaker. I used Mogami cable on my wiring.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

I would recommend you Evidence Audio SIS plugs, with their Monorail cable.
Best solderless system I've ever tried and, with the best sound (well, lack of coloration).
And, EA waranties his stuff for life!
