DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

I have all three of my pedal boards wired with George L cables. I have used them for over 12 years with no major issues. Every once in a while one of the ends loosens up & it makes a loud buzz. I tighten it back up and we are good to go. I have never seen any reason to change them.

I think if you have enough fine coordination to play guitar, you have enough skills to solder properly.

And if you still can't, upgrade your soldering iron. And watch a few Youtube videos, you might be doing something wrong.

I thought I sucked at soldering until my old iron died and I bought another one.
Now my wiring is so clean it looks like it came from a catalog or something.
Before it was all brown/black spots and excess.

Good point!

I had disregarded the importance of flux too, resin core soldering should make your life easier. And stay away from cheapo soldering material.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

I would recommend you Evidence Audio SIS plugs, with their Monorail cable.
Best solderless system I've ever tried and, with the best sound (well, lack of coloration).
And, EA waranties his stuff for life!

Yes. If only more people knew about the EA SIS plugs and cable, solderless wouldn't have the bad reputation that it does.

I originally wasted my money on some Lava Tightrope solderless kits. The stuff failed on me during live gigs and was nothing but trouble from the get go. I contacted Lava about this and they said that I had incorrectly assembled my cables and directed me to a YT video on how to "properly" assemble them. Well, I tried and I tried, and after wasting tons of time trying to get them to perform properly I just gave up on them. Also, when I contacted Lava again to let them know that I still couldn't get my cables to work, they made me feel like I was an idiot. Their manner was very patronizing and I was made to feel that it was all my fault that I couldn't get this DIY product of theirs to perform as advertised. Never again!

Thankfully my guitar buddy put me on to the EA SIS, and this stuff is flawless. A breeze to assemble, durable and doesn't alter your tone in any way. Just a perfect product if you ask me !!

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

I don't have a problem with my George L's solderless cable.
But I have had LOTS of problems with my Lava cable.
Divine Noise makes the most indestructible cable out there, but it is not pedal board friendly.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

Coincidence that this gets revived. I just now got a set of George L's for graduation to clean up my pedalboard. Just cut them up and plugged them in. Works great.

Re: DAMNED. LAVA. CABLES.

what do you use the para driver for?

Bunch of things depending. An overdrive/amp sim for bass and guitar, extra general eq, clean boost, etc... It can be dialed in for a full on fuzz bass distortion too with the mid shift knob rolled way back, the mid knob turned up, and the gain cranked.

I keep the drive lower than I have it in the pic, but the other settings are about right. I plan to have one "drier" and cleaner signal come from the para driver to the FOH and another one coming from my amp on stage with the rest of the effects like the mxr distortion, phaser, wah and whammy added. I like to have a tiny bit of dirt going into the other effects but not much, only enough to be apparent when I dig in. The para driver is new so I haven't had a chance to try this out yet live.

Depending on the gig I could go the DI route for both, or the Sansamp would be the signal he gets and my amp would do the rest of the work. That or I just run it all through the amp and that works well too.
