I've been trying to find this out forever.
So, today I received the official response from the SD team:

Question:

Would you happen to know if Dave Murray from Iron Maiden uses his Hot Rails neck and bridge with 250k or 500k pots?
"I can’t speak to all of Dave’s touring guitars but for pickguards and projects we’ve done for him 250k has been used..."

So anyway, just for the hardcore fans that wanted to know the same info.
Thought I'd share it....

I'd have assumed so based on his tone

I would, too. Which is why I've always loved his tone. I usually use all of the Rails pickups with 250k pots.

I dont think theres a big difference. 500k might be a bit brighter, but if you roll off the tone a bit, its the same as the 250k, I believe.

I did a bit of experimenting between 1 meg, 500k, 250k since I had some on hand... Difficult to find the scenario where there's a make/break diff.

It doesn't fix or destroy a bright or dark pickup/guitar combo to go one way or the other, just about everything else has more impact.
