Do you WAH lefty or righty?

This is something I've never thought about much, probably because I naturally use my right foot, but also the left foot sometimes.

Last night, after all this talk about Teese wahs, I decided to spend more time with my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe's features, listening to it with my strat and 335.
Normally, I just keep it in 'Jimi' or 'Whacked' mode and step on it. This time I really wanted to listen to the dynamics of every setting with every guitar pickup combination......and which settings are best for certain types of licks/riffs.

I noticed that my right foot is more in sync with the beat, but surprisingly, my left foot is more independent, allowing me to shape the notes better, probably because my left hand is doing that too. I started giving more thought to which foot I should really be using.

So, for you wah users out there......which foot do you normally use, and can you be ambidextrous enough to use both?

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Well I haven't posted any clips yet that will show my playing abillity so take it for what its worth, but I use left, my moving thigh gets in the way of my pick pushing the guitar's body. Plus its more of a metal stance it looks like I am unloading from M60 John Rambo style.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Right handed guitar. Never thought about it, but I always use my my left foot on the wah. Wierd.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

It's funny...I never thought about it until a few days ago...IM a righty and I've always used my right foot however I was watching a lefty the other day and he used his left foot...it seemed so odd for a minute but I guess it's real natural for him!

BTW...sorry I've got you thinking wah pedals Joe!

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

ever notice on a pedalboard, because of the order pedals should go in, the wah pedal tends to be on the right side of the pedalboard? I'd say that's why people tend to use their right foot over their left.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Right handed, right footed.

Here's a theory for you... I bet most people that wah left footed drive a stick shift car. I rarely drive a stick, so my right foot has much more control than my left, wahing or volume swelling with my left just feel wierd.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

It's funny that most people hardly remember which foot they use. I thought I usually used my right foot, but now I'm not sure. Another reason a person might use their right foot is because of the hard click on/off.

And Christian...I think I got temporarily mesmerized by all the talk about Teese wahs, forgetting that the Clyde Deluxe is really a great wah. For the past year, I've been mostly playing straight into the amp or acoustic guitar. I didn't use my wah much at all, and now I'm discovering how truly great it is. 3 modes and variable volume really make it versatile. I always set it at the same volume (slightly hotter than unison) and now I'm finding that the volume knob plays a part in the overall sound...ie cleaner/gainier.

I can stop all my silly Teese jonesing! LOL

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Righty for me, but sometimes I have to stop to turn something else on. I have my wah positioned almost to the extreme right on my board, so if i want to turn something else on I have to either stand on my wah, or take my foot off so I can switch feet.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

I'm a totally right foot wahist. For me it goes back to my early introduction to drums, and keeping a downbeat rhythm on the kick pedal. My left foot doesn't maintain the same rhythmic control, so right foot it is.

Cheers..............................wahwah

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Right foot. I remember watching Woodstock '94 on pay-per-view. Primus played, and that was my real introduction to the wah. I'd heard them before that, but nothing like what Larry LaLonde was doing. I called my dad into the room, said, "Is whatever he's stepping on making that puking noise?" He said yeah, it's a wah, and I realized then that I needed one. I got a Crybaby for Christmas that year, and have always used my right foot because Larry did on that video.

I actually use my right exclusively for all floor controlling.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

left handed writer (among other things) but right handed guitarist, and I use my right foot for all pedal controlling.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Right handed guitarist, left footed wah-pedaller.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

Depends... I use both.

For pedal controlling, I tend to use the right, but sometimes if its easier, I use the left.

Re: Do you WAH lefty or righty?

I am hesitant to learn how to wah properly with a foot, and since I don't use wahs all that much I figured I'd be much better off with buying an auto wah / envelope filter. Controls the effect with the intensity of picking.. So I'm neither lefty or righty, and quite happy with that. ;)

I'm used to wah-ing with the right foot. I'm right handed. That's an interesting theory you've got, though: I've got to try it. I was meaning to do the Al DeMeola (sp?) thing and constantly keep beat with the right foot, so logically I think you're on to something. Will report findings later :D

+1 on the drums. I think most right handed people are more hardwired for right foot wah.
