play split humbuckers? In-phase out of phase? Or does he always use the full HB?

That's why alot of guys like Esquires better than Teles...the magnets in the neck pickup of a Strat or Tele chokes the strings and affects the sustain and intonation slightly. As far as EVH goes, Erik is right...no coil splitting.

The one bridge pickup must be the reason for the funky EVH taped-up stripe design. One PU in the bridge looks so plain. But the right paint job and you hardly even notice that there's only one PU.

Lewguitar said:HB's definately have alot less string pull than single coils. In a most single coils the polepieces are the magnets themselves. In a HB the magnet is under the pickup and the screws and slug polepieces are not magnets but are somewhat magnetized by the magnet...but it's a weaker magnetic field than if the polepiece itself is the magnet as in most Strat and Tele pickups. I'm not sure if I would have any use for one either. I had a 59 neck in for 2 days, but it was awfully BOOMY. I've considered an AP2, but have yet to try one. It would match up with a 59/CC Hyb. What would be the smoothest possible pickup, with current pickup, basswood body? Seymour, or Custom Dealer? Opinions?
