Sure with the gain down the SLX will be clean... but i wouldnt ever accuse them of being good cleans. Using one for cleans is kinda like using a ferrari to pull a manure cart. Its a great score get the amp fixed and it will do killer distortion sounds for you. look elsewhere for great cleans.

could not agree more! Marshall's in general are not know for great cleans like a fender blackface,but these 900's(SL-X in particular) have even more gain than say a 800.
I would use Marshall's for their unbelievable crunch and sustain. even my main amp which is a engl i have to have a separate amp for cleans,i use a roland JC-120 stereo chorus like lynch used to use and it has amazing clean tone
If you want a really good tune amp that has great cleans fenders are the ticket IMHO.:fing2:
