Down to two now

Well sold all the Floyd Rose guitars....
Have one Ibanez body left(RS 135), still no neck....will get around that soon...
But in reality I only have one electric now, and that is the Tele.

And my Seagull acoustic...

Kinda strange...and liberating at the same time!

Re: Down to two now

Well have been playing on those since the 80's.....
I think I had my share by now ;)
Besides now I have to mean it when I play...so it actually gets less depressing in the long run!

Re: Down to two now

Funny, I have way too many right now (even by my standards...) I've played mostly Fender-style guitars after fifteen years or so, but not until earlier this year had I owned a Telecaster. Feels like if I had started with a Telecaster, I feel like I would have stuck with them throughout; I can't put it down, just a Mexican guitar but great sound/feel.

Also only last year got my Floyd guitar as well (Soloist.) I almost feel like I might be comfortable cutting it down to just those two now :) Or at least, a US Telecaster and Soloist... The catch is I'm still most comfortable with Jazzmasters/Jaguars, nothing beats the ergonomics.

Re: Down to two now

With an acoustic or a Tele straight to amp you've got to come correct. Can't fudge f*$! . But if you make it work...sweetness. :notworthy

Re: Down to two now

Heh yeah....
I hope to get a big 50's style neck for the Ibanez though....
Because I want a Strat....but I am not going to get one more CS for this....
It has a different vibrato, but the neckpocket is compatible with Fender style necks, so I'll see if I can dig out some big maple neck somewhere.

The Seagull is part of my everyday, play it when ever I can...that thing is just great....
Last week I repaired a boat load of Martins and Gibsons.....yuck overpriced POS's all of them...most of the Martins did not even have wood for bridge or fretboard...and those where 3000-4700$ ones....Gibson...none of the necks where set right on any of the guitars, and they all looked like they where made in a garage somewhere obscure...oh well nothing new there....

Re: Down to two now

I've managed to go from 12 down to 4 myself - a Lester, 2 Strats and a Tele. It is liberating to finally focus in on the sound you hear in your head!

Re: Down to two now

I currently have 2 electrics and 1 acoustic at my apartment. Have several at my dad's house.

Have some remaining project pieces lying around, but my Tele really does all I need for electric and my HH Warmoth can handle the heavier stuff if needed.

Re: Down to two now

Playing only an acoustic and a Tele is distilling everything right down to it's essence ... you and music. I think as we get older our entire world-view gets that way ... we own more of what we say and do, and the junk we need to do it becomes less and less important in the equation. And as players, our touch and our musical 'voice' become the dominant factors. The gear just becomes the tools we need to say whatever needs to be said, and we take more responsibility for getting the message across. The gear choices kinda fade into the background.

Re: Down to two now

If I had to get down to two, I know I could. But I don't want to.
I have had a mountain of guitars.....well most of them was a waste of money and way too much wasted time.
Some I learned alot from, others where just a waste of time and focus...

I always got caught up in ifs and maybes...or could be.....
Sometimes I wish that I had focused more on playing than gear...
But it is a double edged deal, on one side you learn alot from mistakes and such, on the other hand I took out alot of time that I could used on playing instead...maybe it even prevented me from playing in some setups, where I could have had a job...but because I wasted it on gear, the time that it is, I never got those gigs....

On the hindsight I should have honed my sightreading and such...yeah I used to read notes when I was a kid....now....I can't read much anymore....

Now I know how to fix guitars and such.....but I rather wish that I was better at playing instead.
It was a lack of focus due to way too many guitars, projects and such....
My old mate I grew up with, plays lots of gigs now....

And I make pedals and guitars ;)
Hah oh well such is life, I long since stopped regretting it anyways...no use for that, I moved on.
I still play but it is far from what I used to do.

Pretty much oh crusty one. I'm 49. I play electric about once a month. Most days I sing and play acoustic guitar or my Korg using one piano patch. A dab of Boss chorus, a bit of reverb and a smidgen of delay here and there completes the picture.

Re: Down to two now

I could trim down but in reality, I don't want to. 3 of my 4 electrics I built myself so there is a connection with them. That, and playing in a band, I need a few extra in case one goes down needing a repair that I need to make time for. Have had to do that in the past a few times.

Well said crusty. Despite my handle on this forum, I too an learning as I get older that the best cure for GAS is practice - the more I play, the less I shop :)

Re: Down to two now

Good move. I got 5 electrics and 1 acoustic now. The two electrics of my youth (1984/1990) are staying. My newest (2012/2014) Ibbies are not going anywhere soon. Son and wife don't want to let the acoustic go, so this leaves me to sell or give away my Carvin dc135, if I want to make room for another guitar.

Re: Down to two now

Well, good for you! Once you return to your senses, I know of a couple of pretty nifty Nightswine deals in Denmark at the moment…

Re: Down to two now

Haha, to oblige you I'd be happy to take any future Kramers heading your way off your hands, provided that they are cheap!

Re: Down to two now

I'm not as sure as you are that an army of Floyds in your closet is that easy to forgo; the good things in life seldom are. But whatever makes you happy, man.
