I tried DR tite fit strings on my McCarty last night. They feel like they are broken in from the start...kind of cool. For new strings, they feel like they have been on the guitar for a week. They are not as tight as other brands, and bend and play great. I am noticing a slight increase in fret buzz because they don't have the tension of the GHS Boomers or others. These are round core and not the standard hex core so they are more plyable, do not require bending to get the slack out....stay in tune great, and play nice. DR also claims this design gives a wider frequency response and a slightly brighter and more articulate tone. The jury is still out as to whether I will keep them. I had to adjust my style because I usually play pretty hard. My LP takes 11-54, but I may try a DR set 11-56 since they don't have quite the tension. Mind you, it is a slight difference but they feel nice and play very well.
I also like the DR allows you to order cstom gauge sets through any dealer. They also use special packaging designed to prevent corrosion and this combined with the design apparently helps them last a long time. I'll see. They are kind of neat because I can go with heavier gauages while retaining playability.
Anyone else a DR guy?
