Dual Rectifier Maverick

Whats the general concensus on the Dual Rectifier Maverick?

Always wanted a Mesa. Gonna play one in the store no matter if people hate it, just curious what people thought of it

As an all around amp: clean, crunch, high gain etc..

Re: Dual Rectifier Maverick

not high gain but a very cool amp. i saw kal david playing one years ago and his tone was amazing.
its not a dual rec type mesa. more rock than metal and has some nice low gain tones too

Re: Dual Rectifier Maverick

I had the 4-10 version a couple years ago. Amazing cleans...not so nice drive.
Luckily I bought it cheap and sold high. Try before you buy!

Re: Dual Rectifier Maverick

My least favorite of the Dual Rectifier series. They have nice cleans as someone already stated, but their gain channel sucks! Very buzzy and rough sounding. I couldn't get any kind of note definition out of the one I played...the 2x12 combo. That could've been a number of things like bad tubes, speakers, etc...But can't imagine a diver or tube swap could "clean" one up enough for me to actually buy and keep one.

Re: Dual Rectifier Maverick

I love my 212 Maverick! There are lots of tones in that amp, but it ain't a Fender Twin. I can get close to those tones, along with Vox chime and Marshall tones too. You can get good note definition with the diode rectifier. Keep the mids low...above 11 o'clock the control adds gain. The Class A design with el84s has a very different tone and feel than your typical 6L6 Fender.

The amp does have less gain than other Mesas...it was designed that way for a reason. The amp loves pedals and works well with every pickup I've thrown at it....even the oddballs. With my R9 Les Paul it can get very Marshall-y...think Duane Allman at the Fillmore...at a reasonable volume. I like to use my Horizontal Recto 212 under the combo to add some low-end grunt and projection, making for a nice compact half stack.

If I want Santana-esque sustain I use my boost pedal to bump the input. And it's in there.

I would STRONGLY recommend that you download and read the owners manual from Mesa's website.

I would say that the Maverick is my FAVORITE Rectifier.
