Duncan Double Creams....

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

What, how did they manage to do double cream?! Is it because the pickups themselves are not "directly being sold"?

As far as I know double cream is trademark of DiMarzio (someone else posted a thread on that topic a couple of months ago or so) but I guess the color is a customer requirement. the very last row of the combo box of the color availability is "custom color (please write in the notes what color you want)". Yes, it's quite strange, though

I think that's because being OEM, the responsibility of being liable of trademark infringement lies on the Gibson side. And I don't think DMZ will want to make waves because of it.

DMZ is all about oppressing the small fish, specifically competing p'up makers and boutique winders that don't have the resources to fight back. Typical bully behavior.

Well, I understand that--if you are going to have a trademark, then you have to enforce it or lose it.

This is interesting to me, because Gibson has not offered any of its guitars with their own pickups in double cream. So, I don't think it's an OEM issue.

Thanks Emi for the link to the pickups.

DMZ could've also allowed everybody to use it and get royalties for it, but decided to simply obstruct the domestic competition, as the rest of the world can and do sell double-cream to their heart's content.

Bully behavior 101. ;)

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

Let's not kid ourselves, there's actual cream Dimarzio, then there's the khaki tan Seymour "cream".

SD double khaki!!! Lawsuit avoided!!!

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

The day I can tell "cream" from "khaki" from "parchment" from "beige" from "Navajo white" from just "white" is the day I put down my guitar and get an interior design show on TLC.

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

Wow, another sunburst LP, and this one is a steal at $7k!
The High Voltage sets I've seen have always been covered. Maybe they were sold covered to Gibson, who took the covers off, saw double cream and thought they could get get an extra $1k, I don't know- I have no inside info here.

Well, it was more of a slight against SD than an actual truth. Clearly worthy of underhanded passive aggressive jab on your part...

They most certainly have, my GK-55 had open double cream Dirty Fingers in it stock. That was 1979, so F Dimarzio.

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

I don't think all the criticism of DMZ is mecessary or even germane to this thread. We've been down this road before; we all have feelings and opinions about this, but the snide and negative comments about DMZ have gotten us consumers exactly NOWHERE. Heard it all before, and it's pointless.

The real news and the point of this thread was that Gibson and Duncan are offering a guitar with Duncan Custom Shop pickups in DOUBLE CREAM. I want to know how this happened, when Duncan has said they weren't going to do double creams any more, not even under covers. So, something has changed. Did Gibson get DMZ's blessing? Are they paying royalties? Trying to break the Trademark? What's going on?

I've got a guitar that would look fabulous with double creams, as I'm sure many of you do. Is this new Les Paul a sign of something on the horizon that would give us hope of ordering Duncan double creams at last?

The world want to know....

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

Larry Dooshmarzio can kiss my grits. That said, I have, use and like a number of his wares. I'm not putting politics in the way of tone.

The pickups seem obviously Angus inspired.

Chicago Music exchange is cool. That is one effing righteous Les Paul!

Re: Duncan Double Creams....

Hi,
Y'know, Parchment looks really great. IMHO. I would rather have double parchments in my honey maple LPCustom. Or my SG. Or any guitar that isn't white.
Not cream, mint or relic white, but parchment. I love it. I bet I am alone. Look at Jeff Becks original Flame maple LP in the original JBGroup. When th cover comes off, it is blinding white. There are other white/black zebras. Not cream. So I don't get the love for cream as much as everyone else. I do Love zebra or double parchments. Old J.Page shots too, back in the early Zep days. White.
The white double bobbin (I have 3) only looks good on my Snow White Strats, I have 2 stage worthy, and 1 that could be re-born with a neck, electronics, pickups, you get the idea. But only cuz it's white.
Call this JUST SAYIN'.
