Re: EastWest Composer Cloud -- anyone take the plunge yet?
I'm not a fan of subscription services for software products. Adobe's subscription-only format came at a bad time - I was headed to the site to purchase Photoshop, after almost 2 decades of using Paint Shop Pro, because I finally had a need for its more advanced printing features that justified the price. To my dismay, you can't buy a full working version, just the subscription. As Ginormous said; my money, my property. If I spend the money, it's mine forever to be used at any time from now till the day I die. If I choose not to upgrade to a newer version, that's my choice to make. While developers see upgrades as a great thing, it's not always the case for the end-user; had I purchased 3D Studio Max 2012 3 years ago, I could use the available plugins for working with Skyrim models. Since I waited and purchased the 2015 version, that plugin is incompatible due to changes made in the SDK for 2015, which the plugin developer has not adapted to.
Netflix is a video streaming service, not a library of content stored on my computer. Movies are streamed and buffered in a temporary location on my PC for smoother playback. When I installed BFD 2, those samples were placed on my HDD. Big difference.
With all that said, the EastWest stuff has intrigued me for a very long time, and this may be the one time I fall for the monthly subscription trap. I'll have to read the fine print about it.
