Easy way to install humbuckers into pickup rings!

I've always done this the traditional way and gotten good at it, despite having many a spring fly off into the stratosphere.

How many of you have tried this easy hack?
I can't believe I spent nearly two decades on this forum, and never learned this!

It's not the only way to do that, but it's a good one.

I've always put the ring down on the table, but never thought to use a clip to hold the springs.

That's a good one. I've always just used end nippers to cut the spring about 1/16" shorter than the screw. Never been a problem with adjustability.

i battled this when i was new to pup swaps, now i just do it without much thought, good useful trick though!

I'd like to mention, I only cut the springs on my own pickups. I'd never do that to a customer. For them, the alligator clip trick is cool.
