I had them in a dual rec before I sold it. Definitely tighter than the stock mesa rectifier tubes. A little bit of a sharper attack, but still warm.

USA made NOS 5U4's are available and reasonably priced. They will also last decades. Why not get the real thing.

But which stocks are you comparing to? Mesa has went to the short rectifiers in recent years.

I'm not entirely sure, but they were about the same height as the 6l6 tubes

The new EH 5U4's i got were the exact same as the MESA 5U4 brand to was in the amp. {i didn't know that before-hand}

But now i have spares.

And i looked high & low, seems the EH/Sovtek brand is about the only CP 5U4 made.

JJ Electronics makes em too. They also have a GZ34 that will work in it.

Oh OK, I was only asking because I've seen many that still have those tall coke-bottles even to this day. Many recto guys only use the diodes so they never even bother replacing the rectifiers.

Yea, I certainly didnt need to replace em, I never used em. Guys like to hear "recently re-tubed" in descriptions for used amps for sale though lol. So I changed em.

It all depends on what you are trying to get out of replacing them. If you are trying to get more or less sag/s compression you would be better off switching the rectifier types not brands.

Weber VST has "Copper Caps" that are good for testing different tube rect. sag and stuff.

They're not a true rectifier tube - they contain diodes + circuitry etc which emulate sag and such.

Different models.
