Re: EMGs vs Blackouts
After reading many reviews on the Blackout in comparison to EMGs (on harmony central); it seems to me that most people like both pickups about the same, despite their differences.
I guess this question is too the people who have tried both pickups...
What do YOU THINK are the better pickups; and if you could only choose one; Why would someone chose EMGs over Blackouts? And Vice Versa....
without question the blackouts are BETTER! Duncan has literally taken every bad quality of EMG and fixed it.
I think a lot of people that are EMG guys are used to the compressed feel and unfortunately rely on it's extra noise to cover up their sloppy playing (not everyone, but definately some players are like this). Also, EMGS will make all guitars sound similar so they are great for covering up a cheap piece of tonewood. Emgs usually go well with 300 dollar guitars. Just my opinion...others may think differently
Unlike the EMGS, Blackouts are totally uncompressed and open. They feel like passives and bring out the tone in your guitar's tonewood better. They also bring out the tone in your hands/fingers better. They are ultra quiet too....all of these factors mean that the Blackouts are more UNFORGIVING than Emgs. Because blackouts have less noise, sloppy playing will not be covered up. Because the blackouts are more open, bad tonewood or cheap guitars will not be covered up. Because they are less compressed, they may not vibe with the hands of a sloppier player.
But without question...without a doubt....blackouts are better than EMGS.
However, I can definately understand why a lot of guys will still prefer EMGS. Just to be fair....EMGS have been around a long time and many players have literally built a career on their sound. They are a taste ....people are comfortable with them...so EMGS will probably never get replaced by blackouts (at least not in the near future)
Just my opinion. Others will certainly think differently
