Eminence Wizard...

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I'd do a Wizard and a Swamp Thang. Use the Wizard for aggressive mids and highs and then the Swamp Thang to fill in the lows and provide a darker top end and mid range.

That's what I was leaning toward... just wondering if the wiz would be too bright and shrill

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I just put swamp things AND texas heats in my Randall cabinet...(X PATTERN). Very dark, middy, and thunderous lows! I can get brightness out of it with lots of knob play and effect pedals, but its rich and loud as all hell. Its the sound I was looking for exactly.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

you can mix em if you want but 2 wizards would sound good, too. I've never found their highs to be overbearing. I wouldn't say they particularly "lack" anything...

Re: Eminence Wizard...

The Wizard is a very full-bodied speaker with a pronounced midrange designed to take advantage of a Marshall-voiced amplifier. I personally prefer the Swamp Thang with American-voiced amps and perhaps a mix n match is your best option. I am basing this off of my 4x12 wired as dual-mono 2x12 with a Wizard/Swamp Thang mix with my own amps (EAST Studio 2, Mesa Tremoverb, Laney AOR, Bumbox Cielo, Vox Little Night Train)

They are both extremely efficient and only have 1dB difference between them so the blending is all but seemless.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I dig the Swamp a lot, I used to love the Wizard but I did get tired up the upper end zing, I think in a dark cab they sound really nice, but at the time, I was not running em.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

THe wizard does have a lot of mids and upper mids... sounds great with my Orange but I'm feeling the itch to try a V30 clone as well...

Re: Eminence Wizard...

Emi Wizard (loudest speker on the market, at 103.5dB) is gonna make a LOUD amp even (((LOUDER)))
YES!

It was a large part of my search when I started using the Studio 2. Unfortunately, I don't think the Wizard complements the Studio 2 very well, and ended up going with the Swamp Thang, which is almost as loud.

Amen, my 1watt blackheart is amazingly loud through that speaker... like earplugs loud (ok, I have tinnitus and don't want to exacerbate it but still).

Re: Eminence Wizard...

It is all a matter of conjecture.....I would try the S.T. and T.H. first.....but really.....if you do not own all three, buy the Wizard also. A player needs extra speakers anyway. Then you can see for yourself....with YOUR ears and fingers....what is best for YOU.
I think one of the "best" pairings with an Emi Wizard is an Emi Governor.
Good Luck

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I've had that combo in a 4x12 for a while. The wizards do have a presence to them that started to put me off in my 4x12, more like T75 presence, not a mid spike. Great, great speaker, still need to try them in my g-flex.

Swamps are ridiculously awesome.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I have a Wizard mixed in a cab with a C Rex. Be advised the Wizard is designed for closed cabs per Eminence website. I originally had in an open back and it sounded a little 'off'. Too crispy or something. Finally realized my mistake and now its in a closed cab I like it. It balances the darker C Rex. But, its also VERY loud. It can overwelm most other speakers.

Not a very Fendery speaker. Excels at Brit OD stuff (Marshally type)

I have not yet come across a muso that did not like the Swamp Thangs.

All reviews are between, "good & GREAT".

According to an email I got from them directly answering that question there's more variables involved, and it can be excellent in some open/ported cabs. Sounds like it might just be a picky speaker.

I'll say this, they loved my Mig60.

Re: Eminence Wizard...

I'm a big fan of the Red Fang and the Private Jack I'd considered pairing a Swamp Thang or Texas Heat with either of those brit speakers and throwing em in my Tweaker 2x12 cab.

Or if I wanna go nuts spending money a Canis Major and a Red Fang. Which could get really interesting if I swap the power tubes to 6CA7.
