Yngwie has a great tone live and on recordings (saw him on G3). JP just copied Steve Morse, another one with great tone...others are Robert Fripp, Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Eric Johnson, Ritchie Blackmore, and David Torn.

Eric Johnson gets some beautiful tones.

I'd kill for the tone on the intro to cliffs of dover..

Thin? Because it lacks the mids of EVH's early tone.

Buzzy? Because there's so much preamp gain/compression and is often scooped (compared to, say, EVH's early tone) that what starts as "crunch" becomes more shrill.

All IMO of course.

i've never heard a shredder with a scooped tone. steve vai doesn't have a sccoped tone, not thin. satch seems to have a very crunchy tone whihc is cool.
but IMO th people with the best tone always have the simplest rigs like say, paul gilbert!!

What would I want with a poll where everyone votes for the one guy that everyone knows everyone will vote for. Theres no point.

The spice girls.

Of course everyone is gonna say led zeppelin.

But

Britney spears

Would be a much nicer poll cause we'd see something worth seeing.

EVH's plexi tone was great, but nothing hits me harder than Steve Vai's "Die To Live". As good as a plexi is, I prefer it for rhythm, Vai's lead tone that he gets from his early Bogner 101B is where it's at IMHO

Becker is a GOD, but is tone in Cacaphony was awful!!

I liked Yngwie's tone on his older albums a lot. You can't go wrong with a strat through a marshall.
EVH's tone was great on the early records, but i don't like his new tone that much.
Paul Gilbert has a very good tone, but he's not in the poll.

Petrucci, Romeo and Vai have awful tones. Processed and lifeless. Yuck.

Voted Yngwie.

I know that there are a few that differ from the lump of mud in the middle, but for me most of it is just soulless "Fretboard Masturbation", with a few notable exceptions like Satch. Sorry

Hehehe...I voted Yngwie...very fluid tone. Just compliments his style. IMO Romeo is a YJM emulator to the extreme (but I like SX plenty, and while I'm not crazy about Romeos tone, I like it better the JP's Dream Theater stuff).

That said: IMO Shred = thinnest possible tone acheivable = Nothing I could like, regardless of how stoned I am.
