Re: Favorite Gibson model?

Les Paul's are my favorite and I'll have another on the wall in about 12 hours. But more than that, I love maple over mahogany..... everything but the strat is and there's one more not on the wall. Mmmmm Mmmmm Mahogany and Maple.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

He used a variety of guitars...mostly ES-175, ES-5 Switchmaster, a '55 Tele with a neck humbucker, and an LP Jr.

Haha... that one went straight over your head.

"... He used one in ASIA"... "What did he use everywhere else"

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

Oh, i got it, a location thing. Actually, they didn't tour in Asia all that much, although there was an early MTV concert with Greg Lake singing. He did use his ES Artist for the whole show.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I love LPs as most people do.
But I have some fondiness to Gibson birds, both Fire- and Thunderbirds.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I love the sound of a good Les Paul, but I can never gel with their ergonomics, especially playing live.

I'm happier with a nice, well-balanced SG. Better upper fret access, and the slightly lighter weight agrees with me.

I also like 339s. :D

You would like one of the LPs I made...slightly smaller body overall, thinner than a Gibby, chambered, contoured heel for better fret access, belly relief, weighs only 6 1/2 lbs (same weight as an SG but way better balance).

It used to be the Les Paul, I owned a few Epis and when I finally bought my Gibson I was amazed at the difference it made.

Then I bought an SG and was blown away by the sound, comfort, weight, and accessibility of all frets. I haven't picked up my other Gibson since...

Sounds great guitar, but that's not really LP anymore...

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I enjoy all of my Gibson’s pretty much but the ones I seem to pick up the most are my ES-135, my BluesHawk and my Custom N-225 with the p90 in the neck and a Dirty Fingers in the bridge. That being said the (barely) second tier are ES-335, Les Paul Studio w/Stetsbar, 85 Flying V and SGs (I love my SG Standard & my SG Jr. but they’re 2 completely different animals)

I see people complaining about Gibson’s quality but so far, knock wood, all of mine from custom shop to Melody Maker, have had no issues with quality and all I’ve ever had to do with a new one is setting it up to my personal preferences.

Just a beautiful, simple, classic look with a great feel.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

I can't be the only one that likes the Nighthawk. To me, it perfectly fits between a Les Paul and SG with a tighter feel. Yes, the pickup combination is different and can be annoying if you're trying to find replacements, but the stock ones in my 1993 Custom are really good. Granted, you have to change amp settings as it isn't exactly a Strat or LP, but it's own thing. I love the feel of the Nighthawk and the ergonomics are great.

Re: Favorite Gibson model?

Love les Paul’s, explorers and sgs. But there’s some kind of magic in the les Paul maybe to do with the maple cap, I don’t know but something gives it some kind of something

I like the NightHawk a lot also. I have an Epi NH Custom and like the way it sounds but I prefer my Gibby Blues Hawk with varitone ( I know that may bring down some wrath from some other folks here), which I love when I want the small semi hollow axe The NightHawks five way switch gives me a lot of tonal versatility so it gets some use though.
