Favorite Strings

For electric my favorites are the Regular Ernie Ball 10-46 and the Beefy Slinky 11-54. I've used them for years. Great lasting tone. :headbang:

I recently bought a set of Back Diamond strings. The longer I play them, the more I like the tone I'm getting from them. Very bright with good sustain. They sound and look good on my B.C. Rich Warlock. They're a little too expensive, though...

For acoustic, I like the Martin SP Phosphor Bronze Lights 12-54.

Re: Favorite Strings

I use martins on my acoustic too. Actually, I don't like them that much when they are new (very 'metallic') but once they dull down a bit, they are great. Last ages, too.

I really should try other strings on my electric - I've only every used Gibson brite wires (not a huge fan) and Daddarios (s?) which are my faves at the moment cos they don't break! You get a decent sound out of them, but I feel I ought to giv Ernie balls or Rotosounds a go....

Re: Favorite Strings

DR Tite Fit 12-52 for standard/Dropped D, GHS Boomers Seven string 10-60 (sans the high E, so a 13-60 set) for Dropped C.

Re: Favorite Strings

I usually use Ernie Ball 10-46 for my electrics and for my acoustic I use Elixer 12-54. I used to use D'addario 10-52 but I realized I didn't need the heavier low strings because I never downtune that often. On my acoustic I don't think I can ever go back to non-coated strings again.

Re: Favorite Strings

I have probably tried most of the strings out there, but I only use D'Addario strings now. 10-52 on one LP, 9-42 on the other and 10-46 on my strat.

Re: Favorite Strings

Tried D'Addarios but it doesnt suit my body chemistry(sweaty palms) and rust easily ... so i changed to Electroharmonix .9s, so far so good.

Really? I've found that D'Addarios are pretty durable and sound good after a long time, especially when you rub some Fast Fret on them... Ach, maybe I'm just not such a Sweat Monster as you are :burnout:

Re: Favorite Strings

I haven't tried that many brands, but of the ones I have tried, DRs were my favorite. As far as acoustic, the Martin strings were the best I've used, but I'll be trying some others out in the future.

Re: Favorite Strings

I use D'Addario 9-46 on my Schecter, DR Pure blues 9-42 on my strat, and I have some Snake Oils 9-46 to try out soon.

Re: Favorite Strings

I've been trying alot of stuff lately after using Dean Markely & D'Addario for the most part over the years.

I like the GHS Boomers for tone, durbaility, but they seem to wear out very quickly and start to buzz out/get sloppy.

D'Addario I like for feel/tone, but break way too easily for me

Markley's are a bit tougher than the D'Addarios. Lose tone quick tho.

I've been most impressed with the Gibson Brite Wires. Great tone, last a long time, very little breakage in my case.

Re: Favorite Strings

i liked the d'addarios 10-52, then i got thsee kurly kues? i tried them out they said theyd be good strings with like an anti friction coating near the bridge. that thing sucked. it was just black paint near the balls of the strings that scraped off. what a waste they were like 9 dollars. i also like blue steel 10-46.

Re: Favorite Strings

Snake Oil Strings...best I have ever used. They feel smoother, sound more vibrant and alive, have incredible warmth without losing clarity. They also last and last. I have one set that I am going on 2 months now without a string change. No loss of tone, no discoloration...nothing.

I'm so convinced I bought annother 10 packs at 8.50 a pack.

Re: Favorite Strings

I use Ernie Ball 10-52's on both my electrics. I have tried GHS and D'Addario but keep coming back to the EB's. On acoustic I use Elixir Nanoweb lights (not sure of the actual gauge). I will never go back to another string brand for acoustic. They blow Markley, Martin and other brands out of the water.

Re: Favorite Strings

Markely blue steels 9' & 10's

d'addario flattops light

i'd like to try some everly bros one of these days though!?

Re: Favorite Strings

I'm very happy with elixir nanoweb coated ones. I use the 10 - 52 set on which I occansioanlly use dropD tuning. Markley BLue steel are also good, but the coated strings feel better - they glide more and have a fresher sound...
