Re: Fender 5150 III

i want one even before i get to try it..... i love my original 5150 so much i can't wait to hear what his latest amp sounds like....

Re: Fender 5150 III

hang on, what?! i didnt know a 5150III was in the works..

saying that, fender? odd. we all know the general consensus on fender's metal-styled amps..

do they sound like a peavey 5150?

Re: Fender 5150 III

It looks like that, but its just seperate EQs for the channels, very basic. Treble, Mid, Bass, Gain, and Volume for each channel. The channels are supposed to be like 3 different amps altogether, so I see why you'd want a different EQ on each one (other then the reason to optimize one for cleans and one for distortion and such).

Re: Fender 5150 III

Seems like a pretty cool new amp, especially in that GW clip. I don't see Fender's name anywhere on it, do you think he took the schematic to them and just got them to build it or something?

Also, isn't 8 pre tubes a bit much? Or is it necessary to have that many tubes when each of the three channels has its own EQ/Gain/Presence and there's no master volume?

You'll have one on phase inverter duty, plus one on effects loop duty, so that leaves six. Perhaps there are two cascading preamp tubes for each channel, which would make for completely separate preamp paths. That could be a very good thing.

And I like this idea of the number of tubes equating to 'metalness'. It's funny, especially if I'm right and only two pre tubes are running at any given time. I guess it's the young kid equivalent of me looking at an amp with two knobs and thinking 'tone!' -however, I'd generally be right.
