Fender 5150 III

Re: Fender 5150 III

sounds a bit like VHII to me. More like ACDC as well. Its too hollow sounding, unless the bonehead that is demoing it has the mids all the way up.

I really dont dig it. sorry.

i MUCH prefer this

or if you want it more raw

The new amp just sounds to flat or something to me. Not spongy enough. I dont know how to say it. Just too harsh sounding to me. Waay too middy. And i like mids.

Dont know, sorry fellas...

Re: Fender 5150 III

Interesting.... that expensive $2800 head has all the same features as my $999 Carvin V3... I'm not impressed and find it to be overpriced

Re: Fender 5150 III

I would be very surprised if it would have bad tone in real life.

But if I'll have to pay 3000$ (here it would be probably more then 4k) for an amp - I would like my name on it instead of EVH's signature and a few other mods that would be good for me. Hell, I would like my picture on the amp.

Re: Fender 5150 III

I read up on it. I didn't like the fact that the power and standby switches are in the back and that there are no numbers on the knobs. Minor stuff...... but just MO.

Gotta admit thats the best I have seen him look in a while. The amp is amazing looking too.

Re: Fender 5150 III

I got to try one last week in Nashville GC. I only got to play it for a minute or two, cause we were in a hurry, but I REALLY like what I heard. My biggest problem was getting the dern EVH Charvel in tune - whoever strung it (and locked the nut) didn't stretch the strings at all. But for the 1 minute of so that I got to check it out, it sounded killer. Better than the Peavey 5150 offerings, for sure.

Re: Fender 5150 III

I think the amp looks AMAZING and 3 channels each with their own EQ and presence? I doubt there's a sound in there I'd never use. I won't listen to the clip because I'd be misled, but I think it's a cool enough idea, though expensive.

-this brings to mind a certain Simpsons episode:

Bart: Sushi? Hey, maybe this is just one of those things you hear on
the playground, but isn't that raw fish?

Lisa: As usual, the playground has the facts right, but missed the point
entirely.

That's a cool amp. I wish it was demonstrated by someone who wasn't such a 'notes' player. It's be good to hear some held chords and variety in attack to really hear how the amp breathes.

-that's a major problem with youtube demos: a lot of the people doing them are more into showing that they can play than they are into running an amp through it's paces with an ear for tone. There are some exceptions, though. That Pete Thorn guy does an excellent job.

You know i kind of find humor in this whole thing. Please dont take everything i say so seriously....but its kinda funny that if Halen wanted a legendary amp and guitar he didnt have to do any work at all really.
All these years everyone and their mother have been trying to cop the Halen sound down to a T.
He could have just got a Mojave amp or something else that was totally moddled after him and get one of those crazy guys that have been coping his guitars and get one of those.

Eddies brainchild my butt! lol he just wanted to make some good ole dough and have a good time doing it.
It is just so ironic to me when i think about it.
Here are all these people spending money and resources trying to cop the VHI sound and he goes with the super co. Fender.

Yeah it is a cool amp no doubt. Nothing to make me go nuts over though. there are plenty of real awesome amps around now days. What would make me go nuts is a SS amp that sounded like that or some new technology to sound like that.

just me babbling...

yeah those are hard to come by. i agree with ya. But i would LOVE to hear Eddie through that VHT. The Deliverance is really a cool amp. It pumps me way more than the 5150. just personal tastes

Re: Fender 5150 III

Man just got an epiphany!
Geartalk is far the most boring thing ever:D
All this reminds me of Jeff Beck, when people starts to talk about guitars....he fades away without comments;)

Re: Fender 5150 III
