Fender Stage 160 sounds muffled

I got a Fender Stage 160 amp and the sound isn't very clear for some reason. I don't really know how to describe but to say it sounds a little muffled. Anybody know why this could be happening? I want to use this amp because it has a lot more power than my marshall 15cd, but the marshall is 10x clearer.

Bad speaker, or there's something wrong with the amp.

What settings are you using on the Fender?

i've tried all the settings.. and the result is the same. running through either clean channel or overdrive it still has that muffled clarity to it. perhaps the amp is bad, but i'm not sure what the tell signs of that are. the speakers don't seem to have anything wrong with them but i'm not amp technician.

Re: Fender Stage 160 sounds muffled

Those stock speakers (Celestion G12t-100 I think?) in the Stage 160 can deliver huge amounts of thick bass. If you have the bass cranked too much back it way off or it gets muddy. And if you're using pedals you'll have to back off even more. And if I remember correctly use input 1 as I thought input 2 featured a decibel cut.

Re: Fender Stage 160 sounds muffled

my Stage 100 DSP head does sound slightly muffeled too.... mostly on the clean channel.... with the clean channel thru my Marshall 1x12 it sounds dull.... the distortion channel with a little delay sounds OK but not the greatest...
