Floyd Rose bridge for a Schecter Damien Elite 6

Hi there,

I just got a Schecter Damien Elite 6 FR. It comes with a Special Floyd Rose bridge and I want to change it for an Original Floyd or a Gotoh tremolo bridge. The point is that I'm not sure which floyd size I need for this guitar.

Here follow the guitar specs:

- Scale: 25.5” (648mm)
- Fretboard Radius: 14” (355mm)
- Thickness: @ 1st Fret- .787” (20mm)/ @ 12th Fret- .866” (22mm)
- Nut Width: 1.625” (41.3mm)
- Truss Rod: 2-Way Adjustable Rod w/ 5/32” (4mm) Allen Nut

So, should I get a Floyd R2 or R3? And if I go for a Gotoh bridge?

Thanks

The FR Special is supposed to have the same measurements as an Original. When you say R2 or R3, isn't that just referring to the nut width size? Usually Floyd nuts are either 42mm (R2) or 43mm (R3). You'd just take off the one on your guitar and look on the bottom to see what size it is, in your case it looks like it'd be 42mm.

Yeah, the nut width size is 42mm (R2). What about the fretboard radius? I looked at the FR locking nut chart and the R2 fretboard radius is 10" (254 mm), but my guitar is 14” (355mm). Would I have any kind of problems with it?

According to that chart, the only ones that fit the width are 2 and 7, and the only difference is the bullet recess. (I'd guess for the Fender bullet style truss rod adjuster, they leave a small gap at the bottom of the nut rather than it being perfectly flat.) Are you changing the color of the hardware? I'd say just use the nut you have.

I'm going to change the bridge first because I'm not happy with the Special one and because of the hardware colour.

It should be fine with the R2 model then, right?

The only thing I can think of being different is the height of the string recesses on the nut itself. I'd think that most floyd shelves are perfectly flat. If there's a slight curve to the bottom of the nut itself, you could shim the outside edges. If you needed compensate for the height of the strings, you could shim the entire nut a little higher.

No problems with the radius, since your guitar fretboard has a flatter radius than the bridge (i.e. your strings will curve more than the fretboard, so there's no chance of your fretboard getting in the way of the string vibration and causing buzz) (:
