Floyd Rose problems...

The guitar is a 90' Ibanez RG770. I got tired of other strings detuning when I bent one so I did the block of wood thing to hold the trem in place. I took out the block of wood around a year later and I noticed it not returning to pitch when I used the trem. Previously it would return to pitch no matter what I did with the trem. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a new tremolo? Does anyone know if Ibanez sells replacement trems?

Sounds like you may just need a setup- the spring tension has to be equal with the string tension so that the trem sits parallel to the body, then it'll stay in tune. The RG770's have an Edge tremolo, which is a very good trem.

The Ibanez replacements are VERY expensive, around $220, and since they changed the design in the trem I don't know if the Edge trems are manufactured anymore. Best bet is e-bay, or replace it with an original Floyd Rose

Thanks for heads up about it needing to be parallel but unfortunately that didn't work. Looks like I'll have to get a new one or maybe only a tremconverter and just lock it down.

You sure that it's set up properly? Just setting the unit parallel won't do the job - you'll need to be parallel and perfectly in tune simultaneously.

Yeah, it sounds like it needs a good lube job and a full setup - from the ground up.

Thanks a bunch for that link. I've decided to go with one of those instead of the tremconverter. I'm positive I'm setting it up right. I had been adjusting the spring claw so that when it is in tune the bottom of the trem is parallel to the body with whatever gauge strings I was using at the time. I'm hoping it just needs to be cleaned and lubbed like that site says. Thanks for all of the advice.

Find someone that can take it apart completely, clean it, rebuild it, and re tune it. Good as new.
