Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

...ok. I don't listen to shred. I'm impressed by it for about 10 seconds, and then move on :laugh2:

Lately though, because I've been trying to distract myself from... other things, I've not been without a guitar in my hands... basically just sitting there, improvising, playing along to songs, playing along to random **** on TV... theme songs and whatnot :smokin:

I've developed the ability to play fairly quick passages and whatnot, but piecing it all together is a bit harder to make something that sounds good... Basically I'm trying to figure out how to play... impressively, and more or less develop sharp rhythm and technique.

So I need direction.

Here's the deal: Give me a shred type song that I, who have been playing at a reasonable (;)) pace for years but am a novice to shredding, can (hopefully) learn in about a week, at which point I'll be forced to post myself doing it :laugh2: oh yeah; I don't really care about tapping at this point. at all.

(preferably have a youtube clip of some sort, as I'm too poor to buy records now lol)

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

uhh, bah! I might have to work my way up to that, probably take at least two weeks I'd say :laugh2: ok that is amazing though. conveniently it has a tab at least linked to it...

btw, what effect am I hearing in that, at the beginning in particular...

Anyway, keep posting people! :laugh2: maybe I'll be able to get a few songs under my belt... or maybe I'll just get stuck for a year, lol.

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

As "shread" as I ever get aside from random tapping bits. Was never much of a sweep picker myself.

Still... Zakk's blinding speed amazes me & might be easy to pick up on...

Break out Mr. Metronome & practice, practice practice!

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

yeah, among things I've noticed are that practicing metronomes even at slow tempos seems to up articulation... Playing along with songs the same.

hah... somehow sweep picking is a forte. Picked it up from a lot of surf stuff ;)

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

easy - eric johnson desert rose

he uses a lot of pentatonic stuff for his soloing, so it's a little easier than the more common 3 notes per scale patterns you find with like yngwie and such. i'm not saying that it's easy by any stretch of the imagination to play it like he does, but it certainly helps with finger dexterity and articulation.

besides, unless you're like some guitar prodigy from hell, you might want to plan on longer than a week.

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

Good call on Eric Johnson... and of course - Desert Rose is very impressive... Cliffs Of Dover is easy to find on youtube and has some really good licks in it.

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

Cliffs of Dover is awesome. I was tackling Vivaldi's Summer Presto a month or so ago, maybe you can try that? or since you say you can sweep fairly well i'd suggest the Serrana arpeggios? or maybe the whole thing but you're gonna need way more than a week!! but those arps from serrana really notched up my sweeping skills for sure

Re: Force my hand... Help me shred!!!

listen to the albums "seventh son of a seventh son" and "somewhere in time" by iron maiden. they arent too shreddy, and the solos would be fun to learn. som intros are kinda fast, and some solos are fast.

plus they are amazing albums and im always trying to convert people to iron maiden. (or any 80s metal band)
