If we do end up with a PATB design, we should call it the "Barbeque Bucker" in his honour.

Oh wait ...

Now that it looks like an Alnico 8 PA at 13.5K, it would be cool if MJ/SD could give us some idea of what they could do within those parameters. What kind of tonal balance is available, what other alchemy can be conjured. Do you want the Pearly Gates thing, the '78 thing, (one coil of each), or what...

I think SD should see that as an endorsement of a new concept that he came up with that has been under appreciated.

I'm proud of you all for being brave and different, I didn't expect this. Most guitarists want something like (fill in the blank) used on such and such album...

Eye of newt, hair of dragon, feather of eagle, fang of snake, claw of wolf, balls of bull, etc....

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

I like the Idea of having it be part PG, Part '78, the only problem is that there's a pretty big difference in their output and they use the same gauge wire, but I'm sure if we ask for a PG/78 sound, the custom shop can do it. Also, both of those use an A2 mag, so the A8 would sound pretty dissimilar to either the PG or the 78 even if the pickup was wound to sound that way.

edit: I come to this conclusion based on what I have read here, so take this with a grain of salt.

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

Bah, I figured so what that I don't have a guitar to put this into or that I'd rather avoid the A8, I figured what the hell and pulled the trigger on the PA design, it should be interesting if nothing else, and in the end if it stays at about 100 euros (about 130$ including shipping and VAT) then I should try to get me one, for the experience of having a limited custom pu if nothing else...

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

Sorry to interfer into the patb idea but I fear some things could be better :
to begin I use Demon and Jazz neck 'air' with alnico 8 and I am very please with them .

1) The alnico 8 is a powerfull pickup with an even EQ , so there is no need for a hot winding .
2) At 13.5k it would be too similar to the custom 8
3) The winding should not be hotter than 12k
(then it would , regardless to the magnet and pole type , be the missing link into the Seymour's catalog )
4) And it could have mismatched coils for more complexity
( I have done an air bucker of me Jazz neck , cause it was too thick )
5) It should have two rows of screws to be tweakable like the Demon
( to try all kind of allen /slotted and various lengths )
6) The parallel axis pole pieces can't be changed and they don't give the most powerfull attack , perhaps good sustain tough .

That's it folks ! :headbang:

Hmm, did anyone notice that although both the pickup type and the hotness of the pickup received 171 votes the magnet only got 152?
It seems we got some unsatisfied folks...

This one is going at 130 at the moment.
Hope it'll be able to keep this 'till the end.

By the way, is there another poll coming?
I think we have pretty much covered everything that we could (without being too specific, we do want MJ and Seymour to have some freedom of movement) but maybe there's something I'm missing...
