WINNERS POSTED on POST #98

FREE set of SD pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas :beerchug:
This is from me and my family to one of you in the spirit of the season. Why...? Because :yourock: and some of you roll.
My wife suggested it would be great to gift a pair of Seymour Duncan's to a genuine user this year instead of another music org. I agree. It's not only the kids who need the love!

(BTW...if anybody else wants to gift a set or gift one pickup away, please PM me and well include it and get a few more gifts out)
If you have a particular store, a local store for example you would like to support in the process, let me know and I'll see what I can do about it.

The basics:

-Current production models: (Sans Zephyrs LOL) I do have a max price range in mind but it covers just about every relevant set.
-Could be Antiquities, Seths, Tele Sets, Strat sets, Basslines. You name it, they are for you, guilt free, condition free.
Some of you could use the support and some of you are just tone hounds and or gear sluts. It's all cool with us.

Post below: The Seymour Duncan pickup set you want and why you want them.

What is the goal or inspiration in wanting those pickups?
What is the purpose of the swap etc.? Just do your best to answer.

And... please post a pic of the guitar they are going in. It would be cool to see them afterward installed, but these are condition free.

My wife and I will choose / draw a winner live on video before New Year's Day. We have had a blast doing that in the past on other gear forums giveaways.
Might be in a week or might be in 2 depends on the responses. I'll do my best within my schedule.

If you would like a second chance of winning, then recommend someone else to receive the pickups and why they deserve them. Ill pop you in the hat twice.
If they are chosen, they can choose the pickups they most want.

I think a pickup exchange would be the most awesome, maybe next year it can be organized.

I'll do my best to check the thread in a day or so.

Cheers and Respect!

RG

BTW...If you want a Custom Shop pickup, that is totally cool also. I will support that as much as possible though it may only be a single pickup depending.

Happy Holidays! RG

Giving grows!..It always does!
Someone reached out and extended support on the pickup cost...so now:

2 SETS!
2 Names From The Hat!

Extremely Cool!
Thanks all! You are appreciated.

Cheers and respect!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I'll take you up on that offer. Submitted for your approval, the project Scarab II, complete with a NFT Floyd rose that came with it that I'm blocking off, a fretboard with LED markers, and a combination of an untested Slammer in the neck and a completely unknown 8.3 2wire hum bucker I found jammed in the back.

My choice would be Invaders. They look Gnarls. Even better if they come with odd or contrasting hexes on them. I wish they came stock with purple hexes...that'd be awesome.

I don't think this guitar should be using normal pups. This is an angry, pointy, ugly-haired heathen of an axe, and it needs similar slobberingly angry pickups.

For the record, I'll need a home for the old Slammer and the Hamer-stamped pots if I am chosen as the winner, in case you want to keep it Rollin'.

Happy holidays everyone, and good luck all!
I'll submit another name when there's more people than me :)

Editing: I need f spaced, I guess. Something with rails then?
Still voting for knifeR for the other set.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

If I may, I would like to make a pitch for something that does not yet exist. I've had it in mind for quite some time to build a lapsteel, but am not somewhere that I could do that right now (Saudi is not somewhere with ready access to decent tonewood), so I would be unlikely to make a start until autumn 2014. With that in mind then, I would like to make a bid for a single 8-string pickup of whatever flavour you deem appropriate for 'Metal' lapsteel... :headbang:

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I'm not putting in -- just want to say this is awesome. Merry Christmas!

That is all.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I would like to take a part in this kind of giveaway. Sure!!
I have bought one guitar from Polish company (handcrafted guitars) for really chip money!! It has 30 years old or even more :)
The guitar was in terible state! Awful! Ruined fretboad, frets, bridge, nut, some part of wood, electronic was totaly devastated as well.
1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4a.jpg5a.jpg

WHAT WAS TO DO??....
Everything....

And I DONE it!!
As I am working in composites company (research institute - in Germany) I have done some analysis and simulations and I decided myself for a renovation of fretboard by thin carbon fibres reinforced polymer composite with addition of special nano-metal-powder (Al, Co, Fe, Cu, Mn, Si.. and other elements).
on one picture with my student Michael.

13e.jpg

New Nut, renovated bridge, new pickguard - everything I have done.
14f.jpg

After that I've decided to do some wiring - some special, out of mainstream like always.
This is an Idea for 3 x singles.
15.jpg

If I would like to take minihumbucker on the bridge I will make another miniswitch for spliting it. (maybe Screaming Demon??)

I really don't know what to choose? I put some thread on this forum to help me in this selection of pickups...
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?268795-Refreshness-of-30-years-old-Mayo!!-Pickup-Selection

I invite all of You to look at my funpage on Facebook to see what I am doing and to help me, leave me some tips or advices and so on...
RAZEM ROCK

Now I have seen Your giveaway and I think this may be exactly something for me, but all of you need to help me with pickup selection of this guitar which will be ready directly after the new year!! ONLY THE WIRING DIAGRAM AN SELECTION FOR THE PICKUP LEFT TO BE DONE!!!

It would be really nice to write on my funpage that I have received this pickups not by buing it but as a prize in the giveaway.
And I am sure it needs to be a Seymour Duncan.

At the end I would like to wish everyone good luck and You a good choice.

regards,
Peter

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas. Wonderful Idea. I wouldn't mind some Seth's to put in this.Black Beauty 002.jpg I've already swapped the controls but the stock pickups leave a lot to be desired. I need a slide guitar on stage and Seth's should put this there.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I knew I loved this forum for a reason.

I would love to try a Custom and a 59 in my Les Paul. I'm ok with the Distortion set it has now, but I would really like to try other models, specifically the big, chunky sound of the SH-5 compared to the SH-6. Seeing as the girlfriend would castrate me if I spent more money on pickups, I have been not even entertained the idea. But a brand new piece of gear I've been denying myself showing up at my door would make this holiday... well, just tops.

Gee, golly that would be swell.

Happy Holidays to you!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

First, I'd nominate TheLivingDead. Not only is he one of the coolest members on this forum, he is very level-headed and does a wonderful job of treating everyone with respect and kindness.

But I do need a set of Telecaster pickups myself. I'd like a Vintage for Broadcaster Lead and a Five-Two Rhythm, I'll post pics of the telecaster when I get around to it.

It currently does not entirely work, because the bridge and neck pickups don't work, but the middle does. It has three on/off/on DPDT switches to select each pickup, with each individual pickup's options being on/off/on-out-of-phase. Then those switches go to a 4PDT switch that selects between running the pickup combinations in series or parallel. There is a normal volume and tone control, with the 3-way lever switch selecting from signal-straight-to-jack, signal-to-volume-to-jack, and signal-to-volume-and-tone-to-jack.

I can't imagine anything that telecaster couldn't do. I also "modified" the telecaster middle pickup by taking it apart, and removing the magnets to flip them, giving the opposite polarity, and then swapped the lead wires so that I would then have a RWRP middle pickup. Ironically the only pickup I took apart/modified is the only one that currently works.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

This is very awesome of you, RG.

Tough decision for me as I have 3 guitars that need pickups due to having to sell some off to fund Christmas and other things. Priorities. Good thing is I have 3 other electrics that are gig ready should the time come.

Of the three out of commission, I'd probably opt for my Frankenstrat I assembled in 1993. It's seen a lot of different pickups and the best it ever sounded was with the Brobucker but I ended up using it in something else then sold it off. Wish I didn't do that. I've got a Screamin Demon for it and it's awesome in it too. Or maybe an AH1 in double-black would be cool in it (I'm a big Jake E. Lee fan). I just want this guitar to sound the best it can. It's been my #1 for years.

This is when it has the Demon/Slash neck.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I could use a bridge distortion or black winter. I finally found a lefty 24 scale strat, and the stock pickups are horrible lol. I need more lottery tickets. Update: Can't resize the pic, and Duncan says its too big to post. Free prog I used gave me a stupid virus. Heres the guitar, minus a pick plate. Waiting to get a new one from pick guardian.

That is super cool of you and your wife Rodney. I hope you two have a very Merry Christmas!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I've been blessed with this from a friend of mine, and I am eternally grateful for the upgrades to my sonic paintbrushes. Whomever gets these pickups should also be so grateful and make good music with them!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

Duncan Distortion set

At the end of the day, the Duncan Distortion is MY sound. Nothing to me is better for hard rock or rocking hard. Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Thrash - the Distortion just does it for me. One has been in my #1 LP since the early 90's, and that pickup is a huge part of what makes it my #1.

It will replace the JB-8 in my Dean DOA 2003 Silverburst Cadillac. The guitar came from a pawn shop with a JB and I decided to try some mag swaps to make peace with the JB. I dig the JB-8 a lot. But it isn't 'that' sound. SIlverburst NEEDS the Distortion!

As for a second name - I'll play for the winner of the Ultimate Axe, whoever that is. we should know by New Years....

Jag Paint.jpg

I could use an Alnico 2 pro bridge and phat cat neck for my jaguar.

I purchased my jaguar in 2007 and it has gone on stage with me from everywhere to tiny bars to a crowd of 18,000 in a coliseum opening for much bigger artists. I was a hired gun.

My guitar has had all kinds of pickups in it, from Gibson Dirty Fingers to Dimarzio Super Distortions, OBL blade humbuckers..

My guitar needs a set of pickups because they have gone microphonic and I can't turn my amplifier up very loud before I get all kinds of noise.

Not at all the musical kind of feedback. :(

I decided on that particular set after hearing some demos on youtube, this guitarist that quit his hugely popular pop-rock band and decided to start over from scratch, in the garage. I've had to do the same thing a couple of times... even after playing stadiums and huge festivals.

I get new gear from time to time but it's hard these days when I have to balance my funds between rent, utilities and college expenses.

As for a second user, I'd name Beer$. He puts a lot of work into his band, getting his name out there.

This is an absolutely AWESOME Gesture my good sir (and wife)!

I have been craving and drooling over that new set of those Black Winters!
I've heard nothing but great reviews and not sure we could ever justify buying a set.
Full on METAL baby!

This is the tonally challenged guitar that needs pickups in my house: Jackson Limited Edition Randy Rhoads
She plays superbly, but needs a kick in the pants since the stock pups suffer from lack of Duncan tone.
I can only play her for so long before the flatness in the sound makes me grab a different guitar....

I would also like to nominate The Living Dead for the other set of pickups, he is a great guy with some serious guitar chops! he needs better pickups though!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

KnifeR. Because he owns a Mayones from the way back machine, before they became the darling of the shredstick scene. Its like a pre-lawsuit Ibanez.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I'm 52, and I've got tendinitis, arthritis, and trigger finger, and 6 months ago I just landed a spot in a killer gigging Allman Brothers tribute band. I needed an SG, but one with a thin narrow neck like the early 70s models. I stumbled on a Daisy Rock SGish guitar, set neck etc, just like an SG - except is has a sycamore body. I put a Pearly Gates in the neck (wonderful), and a Custom Custom in the bridge. The problem is the sycamore body of this guitar - the Custom Custom is too thin and bright for guitar, and not enough "balls" for the sycamore body. Yes, an alnico II is too bright. Figure out what pickup I need and give it to me, and I'll give you the just installed CC (give it out next year if you want) and offer praise to any winter holiday custom you want.Daisy Full New SDs.jpg Here is a vid of me playing with the guitar - the stock pickups weren't terrible, but they were microphonic, which got me dirty looks from the band leader, so I bought SDs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF8Ltp25orM I'll even donate $20 to the org of your choice.
Merry Christmas!
