Getting nutty.

The nut looks great, but I hated the yellow to snort green inlays so much. I ordered new set of inlays from Historic Makeovers which gives my 1999 Les Paul Classic a classy look.

That nut actually looks great. Good job. This is something "extra spiffy" you did for this client? That's how I finish all of my nuts (except that all of my nuts are compensated)...it's not special for me to "finish"/polish a nut, it's routine.

It takes me about 3-5 hours to make a compensated nut specific to each guitar I make or repair. An extra 5-10 minutes to sand and polish it is really nothing, but it sure makes it look nice.

Now that is a well made nut. I'm still a novice and making them from blanks. I can only hope to get one to look like that.

I tried to match the bone blank to the binding color, and finished the ends of the nut to look like factory.
The original was a crude looking black plastic nut that worked, but looked very out of place.

I like making nuts. For a couple hours I can focus on one thing and make a little piece of jewelry for the instrument. I want them to look like they grew there.
