Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

I just have to post in here, again! They're one of the coolest-looking and most comfortable body shapes I know. You can sit with one-comfy, stand with one-comfy, and the upper fret access is great. What's not to like??

W3RD!!!

Some of my previous Explorer and Explorer-esque guitars of the past several years (but by no means all I have owned)

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

I hate it when Jolly posts his natural Explorer because it reminds me how much I'd love to have his matching natural Explorer/V duo.

For what it's worth, the only pointies I'd ever own would be those in either natural or cherry.

I haven't owned an Explorer since I was 13. It was a white Cort Explorer copy my mom got me from the Sears catalog.

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

While I wasn't a huge fan of the looks, it did play really well, stayed in tune better than any Gibson I've ever owned and is the best sounding Gibson I've ever owned. I loved my '76 RI and I still kick myself for selling it, but the 60's slim taper neck just wasn't the right fit. It sounded so much better than the SGs, Les Paul Standards, Les Paul Doublecuts and Firebirds I've owned - it really was something else! There was such a quick response to the guitar, but with that fat lowend LP chunk with better clarity.

Explorers -- definitely just for metal guys.

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

I like them. They're very comfortable to play, even though they look like they shouldn't be. For me, the tone isn't quite as thick as a LP, but kind of halfway between that and an SG.

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

love explorers! i only have an Epi Korina finnished one so far and love it... mine is about 8 years old, has a maple neck that got snapped in half and i glued it back together... and it still sounds great thru my Marshalls with the stock PU's....

i do love the idea of getting a Gibson one... really like the new Trem model in White with a FRO on it... they say it's a limited model... but a white one with a TOM is just fine by me too

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

A good guitar that can cover a lot of ground. I think the one at the shop was just neglected but could be cleaned up.

1,400 sounds like a lot to me (but I bought mine about 5 years ago used).

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

That shape does nothing for me - but never played one.

When I think about 'classic' body styles, Explorers DO NOT come to mind - but I was really surprised to learn just how long that design has been out.

yeah, that floyd one has my wallet weeping cuz its empty... want one so bad.

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

Tonally I think they are awesome sounding guitars. A nice thick tone yet not the same as a Les Paul. I just can't get comfortable playing one. That high horn seems to always be in my way.

Re: Gibson Explorers Love or hate?

Big fan of the Explorer pro. I had one, but sold it in a fit of hysteria. Shouldn't have sold it.

One Simple word, and I'll leave it at that. ;

Hee-hee..Jollys gonna have a sh!t fit.
Naw, I realize that Gibbos are more organic and all that, and Jollys beuatiful Explorer has always been one of the greatest guitars on the forum IMHO. Man, I've never played a Gibson Explorer, but i bet they sound great.
I will say theres something about a Jackson Kelly that just feels exactly right to me , and One day I hope to have a beautiful Kelly USA much like the one in the picture above.

I do gotta say that I have a voracious loathing for a Explorer with P90's or anyone who thinks thats cool.. To me, thats just DEAD WRONG!!
