The prices that Gibson Guitar is charging these days is Outrageous!
This company no longer caters to the working musician, but to rich collectors and millionares. Gibson will never get another cent of my hard earned money!

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

not to mention gibson's quality control in recent years is somewhat suspect.

Gibson is charging what people are willing to pay.

I may take issue with the price but I have no doubt that there will be people willing to pay that sort of money for them.

It's insane, yes...but its just the way it is.

But hey....the good news is that there's never been a better time to get in on the used market!

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

they've always been high!

Gibson has been very much a BUSINESS, since the day that Orville Gibson sold the company early on

And THAT is the bottom line folks!!!

Look for alternatives too.....Currently, I'm jonesing for another Brian Moore. The i2 is a very nice alternative that already has Duncans!!!! :13:

I agree....there are plenty of alternatives out there.

I found mine in the Japanese clone market.

Not only was I able to get 2 Customs of comprable quality but they'd aged enough so that the electronics had mellowed into a nice vintage tone.

It's great...I show up to a weekly Blues Jam in one of the roughtest parts of one of the roughest towns in the state and haul out my guitar and am unconcerned about it. I get to actually PLAY it rather than worry about it!

+1. Well said, sir!

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Gibson definately has inflated prices... which is why I opted for a Heritage.

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Buy from Ebay. I got both of my SG's off of Ebay for under a grand. My Goth cost $600 and my X was just $385. That left plenty of cash for pups.

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Hey, I paid a bazillion dollars for a Gibson, because they're the best thing in the world, and anyone who even questions the value is an ignoramous caveman, has apparently never played anything better than a 2X4 with strings, and doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground about quality instruments.

Oh, sh*t... April Fool's was yesterday. Sorry :D

+1 I couldn't have said it better myself. :headbang:

You know what Gibson can do these days with their guitars? :newangel: :fing25:

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

I don't think they've ever really catered to the working musician...Fender, yes. Gibson, no. As someone else mentioned, they are selling them for what people are willing to pay. If they thought they could get away with raising the prices another $1000, I have no doubt that they would.

Kind of ironic that they want $3100 for a blem. When you think about it, 90% of the guitars they make these days would be considered a blem by better manufacturers.

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Gibsons are like Bentleys.

are they worth the price? probably not.
are they of good quality? definitely
is there a demand for them? yes
would you like to own one? yes

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

I own a Gibson SG Standard, but I love my Japan Tokai Love Rock every bit as much,in fact I play my Love Rock more than my SG these days...I also payed about 2k less for a phenomenal looking, playing Les Paul copy....It really gets the job done, besides the tone is in our hands mostly anyway...Most of us already know this...The photo below doesn't do my Tokai any real justice because it's stunning in person...Very flamey also...Plus,try getting a left handed 58,59,or 60 lefty reissue from Gibson without trading at least one of your arms and one kid now! :smack: :13:

See, that's where I gotta disagree. Yes, the good ones are hard to beat, but it seems like almost every one they turn out these days has something wrong with it. No guitar should ever need a new nut or a fret level straight from the factory. If Gibson had the quality level that their pricing indicates they should, this wouldn't be an issue. New PRS's and Hamers are expensive, but no one ever complains about their prices because they have the top-notch quality to back it up. When you buy one of those, you know you're getting one of the best instruments money can buy. When you buy a Gibson, you just hope the strap buttons aren't screwed in at an angle and that there are no permanent marker lines in the finish. :smack:

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

There is nothing wrong with Gibson's prices. Prices are reflection of nothing else than how much someone is willing to pay about them and how much Gibson asks for them. The marxist theory about item's value is pure bull****.

I gotta say this from working at a big chain music store there for awhile...Gibson has had some major quality control problems with some of their lines...If I pay 3k or more for a 58,59,or 60 historic reissue LP,it had better be better than perfect! That's still alot of money to shell out and have high action because the nut was cut crappy....I've seen this issue in more than one instance...You don't see this with the Heritage Les Pauls made at the Kalamazoo Old Gibson factory today..I think Gibson is currently chopping their own head's off with the current ways they are choosing to do business with stores that have been carrying their line for many years...Don't beat me up cause this is just my opinion...We all have em! :13:
