Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

I'm thinking about a LP Studio used that I can pick up locally. I think I can get it for between $500-$600. Wine red, Great condition( so he says)

Anybody have any feedback on these? BTW I am not a guitar snob and am pretty frugal so I don't mind that the LP is not a Standard, it is what it is.

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

The Studio is a Fine Guitar. And if you like it, it plays well, and is in reasonably good shape, $500-$600 would be a steal. ( just my opinion ).....:)

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

i love those wine red studios
that is a great price if it is as good as he says

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

I think for the price, they are one of the best buys on the market. We would all love to be able to afford a $2000 Standard, but that's not always possible and the Studio is an excellent alternative.

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

I have a 2003 wine red LP Studio, and just got it back from my luthier -- restrung with .011's using a Jr. wrap over the tail piece. It sounds and plays great -- nice chunky neck, surprisingly clear sounding Gibson 490R/498T HBs, good ol' LP low end thunk and singing mid-range. As far as I know, the wine red Studio is the only version that shows the wood grain on the neck and back of the body, as well as one of only 2 or so that shows the top wood -- some say that increases the odds of getting nice wood. Anyway, looks good, feels good, and sounds good -- the price you quoted is real good.

BTW, I'm primarily a Fender guy, too, but I really love the LP Standard meets LP Jr. vibe of the Studios.

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

Mine is a '93 and it is great. For the price that they are asking for it then get it, provided it has not had any damage or any other major problems. You may find that the nut may need a new one or just some plain old lube or pencil (particularly the 3rd string) but that should not be a problem. Make sure that you get a good set up done on the guitar. The pick-ups are powerful and although it has a maple cap on it the overall tone is warm sounding and you may change these to suit your taste. Also I don't think you will have any problems in selling the guitar, if you ever want to. They make good gigging guitars if you are concerned about taking any of your expensive guitars out. Here's mine just to give you an idea.

Decision made. If he still has it I'm buying it!

Norman_T: I'm still looking Nomad 55 1x12 (based partly on your recommendation/comments abotu it). I was watching one on eBay the other day but with 1 day left it shot up outta my price range.

Match made in heaven those two. Channel 2 will give you enough bottom end to make you grin from ear to ear!! The Nomad 55's 1x12 are getting rarer (not being made), just be patient and you'll get it!

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

i love wine red, especially with gold hardware, or nickel

hope u can get it, those axes are ssweeett

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

For that price, it would be downright foolish not to pick it up!! Class A axe!

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

I'd say go for it. LP studios are great guitars for the price, and are 100% gig worthy and sound true to the les paul tone.

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

hey man... 600 dollars? that's a STEAL! get it. you will get the true les paul tone out of it. no binding? it's ok. it's still a great sounding les paul.

Re: Gibson on LP Studio Wine Red

I wish I got a wine red studio, i regret getting a black one now, thinking of maybe stripping it down and going natural...

Nononono!!! - don't do it unless you are totally mad!! Don't forget it has a maple cap on it and you will most likely destroy that. If you are unhappy try and do a trade for a guitar that you want in the right colour.
