Gibson "Seconds"

Re: Gibson "Seconds"

Looks like that marble finish Hamer used on some of the Centauras back in the 80s IIRC, based on the photo

Re: Gibson "Seconds"

So, if the paint is done sloppy, it would be labeled a second? I always thought sloppy seconds meant something else... :lmao:

Re: Gibson "Seconds"

That all sounds well and good. But Gibson is letting a lot of guitars out on the market that SHOULD be called "seconds".

jmh151...That quote sounds really wonderful, but in reality I don't see any indication that "quality levels shot up tremendously". That's just PR hype. In my experience the quality levels are lower than I have ever seen in the past 50 years. You can either believe words or experience. I prefer to believe my actual experience rather than the hype.

Just a little reality check.

I don't believe at all that quality levels shot up tremendously, but I do believe they got rid of the blatant turds that were leaving the factory. Most new Gibsons I've picked up have been unplayable and in desperate need of a setup. Quality levels have shot up on import guitarsto the point where it's hard to justify the price of a Gibson. I like that they now Plek their Les Pauls, but still, the action is still too high when it leaves the factory.

I've seen plenty of Norlin Turds- ones where the pancake body is delaminating, the body binding is multiple pieces instead on one solid piece around and ends up delaminating from the body. Sure there's plenty of good ones, but these are the ones that should've never left the factory
