Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

pre-order at musicians friend for $1199....actually cheaper than i thought they would be

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

I think a few of them are cool looking.

I am not really an SG person, though, so you don't have to worry about one showing up around my neck.

Seems like a decent price for an attention grabbing, U.S. made, custom factory special run, though.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

hahaha i love how many people hate this guitar

i bet the people who were in their 40's and 50's when the original SGs were being produced said similar things

"looks like some kinda crabby lobster guitar! nobody will be playing these newfangled solidbodies in five years anyway!"

A "Lobster" guitar?!? Now, THERE'S and idea!!!

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

You know... I kind of like a couple of them. They are different. I know some are disappointed that the guitars don't fulfill your vision of a Zoot Suit, however, what I feel you are envisioning is a tuxedo theme, which is as cliche as barbed wire armband tattoos. We don't need any more tuxedo themed guitars.

That said... I give kudos for thinking outside the box. The guitars have visual interest, for better or worse. But plywood? Really? I'm not buying it... especially for 1200 bucks. No way. No how. Bad form, Gibson.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Doesn't Ikea make a lot of their furniture out of birch? Lightweight, cheap, easily dented. Yet, perversely, I feel a desire to hold and play one. They just look like they would sound . . . different.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Solid birch is actually pretty strong. A lot of ikea stuff is laminate crap, as in compact sawdust with a birch veneer. I have a solid birch table from them and it weighs a ton and has been very resilient.

But does it have good tone?

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

I'd hate to say this, but the price isn't bad for such a different or unique guitar.... it's starting to grow on me

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

You know what? I love SG's. And when I think SG I think Tony Iommi or Angus Young. This SG is just not my style. But I'm sure somebody loves them.
S.O.M.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

I would rock the f' out of one of these. I probably wouldn't buy it, because I don't have the money. But I would DEFINITELY rock one. I wanna make a plywood guitar now. Don't judge me.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

What confuses me the most in terms of marketing this is that they call it zoot suit.. make jazz references in the advertisement.. and then make an attempt to make it as far from a jazz guitar as they can..
